All About DMZ In CoD Modern Warfare 3 Warzone
The upcoming and much awaited Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has the mighty task of carrying over the grand content from its predecessor along with everything involved with the chartbuster Warzone franchise game.
Fans and watchers of CoD recently received a ton of information regarding the release all thanks to the Call of Duty Next presentation. This CoD presentation gave an outline of its multiplayer, single-player, Warzone and Zombies plans with pretty detailing.
The above news created ripples among the fan following along with some talking points about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
Many think that it could be easy to ignore certain multiplayer experiences which may have been missing Activision’s plans for the coming future. DMZ is specifically that mode which once showed amazing promise and ambition with great potential and longevity among gamers. But CoD Next possibly served as a silent announcement about the mode sleeping with the dead fishes.
DMZ was launched as a new experience along with the release of Warzone 2 in the year 2022. This was done with an aim to offer a twist to the grand-scale battle royale title.
While taking inspiration from the growing popularity of extraction shooters such as Escape From Tarkov, DMZ lets players decide their own game, playing style and objectives across Warzone maps. By finishing objectives and making extractions from a map with certain kinds of loot, gamers can then buy stuff like upgrades, making for an intriguing and addictive gaming experience.
With the above being said, the most recent plans for Modern Warfare 3 which were revealed at the Call of Duty Next presentation, DMZ’s future looks bleak to describe it subtly.
During CoD Next, MW3’s core multiplayer and its Zombies mode were the cynosure of attention, along with the changes which are going to come to the main Warzone experience in the form of a brand-new map.
Maybe a worry for the fans of DMZ, the presentation gave a confirmation that no changes / updates were planned for it in the coming time with the game mode rigorously tied to Modern Warfare 2 as the game developers take it forward.
This is considered to be worrisome given how Modern Warfare 3 is talked about as a direct continuation of Modern Warfare 2, which takes forward a lot of the progression from its predecessor. With DMZ in a way being left behind when thinking of MW3, it is difficult to see if the mode receives any kind of rocksolid support as all eyeballs will be on the franchise’s next title which is November.
Curiously, the bold Zombies mode from Modern Warfare 3 will be taking the baton for DMZ’s extraction play. Since MW3’s Zombies being an open-world experience, it was widely confirmed that gamers can pick to extract from the map alongside perks and weapons. Players can also save these to be used later on. This aspect remains to be the core selling feature of DMZ, it looks like the mode is really out of Activision’s attention span as it moves forward.
All of the signals currently hint at DMZ not getting an update for Warzone’s upcoming Urzikstan map. And how the mode could fade away into darkness over a period of time. Of course for many fans of this mode and gamers this could prove to be frustrating, it could be natural outcome for Call of Duty’s annual content being stretched too much as game modes hit an all time high. As DMZ is not being carried beyond the finish line into the new era of Warzone’s new experiences, and the Zombies also taking on its core game mechanic, the mode is facing a hard blow to its gut when we think of Call of Duty Next.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was out on 10th November for the following: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox One.
Modern Warfare 3 To Have DMZ?
DMZ has the support on the existing maps (Al Mazrah, Vondel, Ashika Island and Building 21 along with Koshchi Complex) after Modern Warfare 3 was launched, but it remains out of Warzone’s new Urzikstan map or future maps which may be added.
The new open-world Zombies mode will mostly capture all the attention on the new Warzone maps. This mode is said to be a combination of DMZ with Zombies, in addition to contraband weapons, extraction, and missions to complete in a PvE open-world set-up.
It looks unlikely that Modern Warfare 3’s weapons will have DMZ, as most items you unlock like the Operator skins, Blueprints, and weapons will still feature in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. So any lack of fresh content, there’s still a good enough reason to game.
DMZ will feature Modern Warfare 3 content?
As new developments come to light in the universe of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, many gamers find themselves feeling uncertain with respect to the future of DMZ mode. As a unique mode in Call of Duty, DMZ focuses on PvPvE.
While there is no confirmation of how the DMZ mode will be taken forward and in what format, this mode isn’t going to shine bright within the new Warzone content, as the new Zombies mode takes center stage.
DMZ mode is known to be a bundle of innovation and lulls, a mixed bag in recent times. As per many players, the last major update came around at the start of Season 4. With Vondel’s introduction as the latest Warzone map, DMZ received another strong shot at life. With new weapon cases, a boss, and quality-of-life elements revamping the mode, it feels a new game is at hand.
But, after Season 4, the DMZ updates became far less even with its frequency. While smaller additions like updates on equipment faction missions showed up on roadmaps, substantial content missing became simply evident.
The speculation around DMZ’s fate reached an all time high when Modern Warfare 3 was coming. Many thought if DMZ would possibly integrate with Modern Warfare 3’s content or walk into the night quietly. An official statement from Call of Duty before COD Next fueled the fire of excitement and uncertainty in equal parts.
The statement further clarified that DMZ mode will not be displayed at COD Next but assured gamers that the beta would still run. But, any word on further updates were suspensefully missing.
When details of Modern Warfare 3’s being integrated with Warzone came into news, it became certain that certain maps like Urzikstan, Ashika Island, and Vondel, would be the only battlegrounds for Battle Royale, Plunder and Resurgence. DMZ was obviously missing from the previous list which meant players were wondering about the future of this much loved mode.
The above statement from the official sources also questioned the complications that players will face who wanted to uninstall DMZ from their respective Warzone applications. The cycling-out of Al Mazrah for the new Warzone map, queries came about the requirement of keeping back DMZ in the app.
A clarification came in during the pre-brief even before COD Next established the future of DMZ mode. It was sure that DMZ mode would remain attached to Modern Warfare 2, whilst keeping intact its gameplay, mechanics and movement. Despite an overhaul in Warzone with Season 1, none of the upgrades impacted DMZ mode.
While the fandom of the DMZ mode hoped for more updates in the future, DMZ will run only in its beta version without carrying Modern Warfare 3’s content. DMZ’s fate may skip on crucial updates or the complete removal of its beta state, but the mode will remain online for players who became very fond of it and the mode’s free-to-play experience.
