1 years ago By AI Smith

In a significant development within the esports world, the Chinese Dota 2 powerhouse LGD Gaming has officially ended its partnership with PSG Esports, the esports division of the renowned French football club Paris Saint-Germain F.C. This announcement, which was made on September 4th, marks the conclusion of a five-year-long collaboration and a return to the original LGD Gaming name for the Dota 2 team.

The Birth of PSG.LGD and Era of Excellence

The partnership between LGD Gaming and PSG was initially forged in April 2018, leading to the rebranding of LGD’s flagship Dota 2 team as PSG.LGD. This collaboration catapulted PSG.LGD into the upper echelons of the Dota 2 hierarchy, where they rapidly earned a reputation as one of the world’s premier Dota 2 squads.

The PSG.LGD era was characterized by remarkable achievements, including three Major championships. In 2018, they emerged victorious at EPICENTER XL and the MDL Changsha Major. Their crowning glory came in 2021 when they clinched the title at the WePlay AniMajor.

Additionally, PSG.LGD consistently excelled on the grandest stage of them all, The International (TI), Dota 2’s prestigious annual world championship. Their stellar performances included a runner-up finish in TI 2018 and 2021, along with a third-place finish in TI 2019. These remarkable feats solidified PSG.LGD’s legacy as a Dota 2 powerhouse.

The PSG.LGD era also saw the team host some of the biggest names in the history of Chinese Dota 2, including stars like Wang “Ame” Chunyu, Lu “Somnus” Yao, and Xu “fy” Linsen, among others. The squad became synonymous with excellence, drawing legions of fans worldwide.

Farewell to PSG.LGD and the Beginning of a New Chapter

In their official announcement on Weibo, LGD Gaming expressed their deep appreciation for the successful partnership with PSG. They acknowledged the accomplishments, and celebrated the PSG.LGD legacy in Dota 2, and conveyed their gratitude for the memorable moments created during this era.

The announcement also marked a poignant farewell to PSG.LGD, is often referred to as a “generation of legends.” LGD Gaming is now set to chart a new course, as they look to provide opportunities for their emerging young talents to craft their destinies in the esports world.

LGD Gaming: A Pillar of Chinese Esports

LGD Gaming occupies a storied place in the annals of Chinese esports history. The organization traces its roots back to 2009 when it was known as “For the Dream,” a period that coincided with the rise of the original Defense of the Ancients mod for WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne. Since their entry into the Dota 2 esports scene in 2012, LGD has consistently represented China at The International (TI), Dota 2’s most prestigious event.

As they embark on a new chapter, LGD Gaming will carry the hopes and aspirations of their devoted fanbase. They will once again unfurl the LGD banner at TI 2023, which is scheduled to take place in Seattle in October. The team secured a coveted direct invitation to the event, solidifying their status as one of the world’s premier Dota 2 squads.

TI 2023: A New Frontier Awaits

TI 2023 promises to be a thrilling spectacle, featuring a revamped format divided into two distinct phases: “The Road to The International” and “The International” itself. This innovative structure is set to deliver an enthralling Dota 2 experience for fans, players, and teams alike.

As LGD Gaming returns to the TI stage under its iconic banner, it seeks to etch another glorious chapter into its storied legacy. The ultimate goal is to capture the elusive championship title, a feat that would resonate deeply with the passionate Dota 2 community worldwide.

The esports world eagerly awaits LGD Gaming’s resurgence and their pursuit of greatness at TI 2023. With their storied history and indomitable spirit, LGD Gaming stands poised to embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in its quest for Dota 2 supremacy.
