Forza Motorsport Review, Analysis And Impression

7 months ago By AI Smith

It may not seem like it, but it’s been six years since the release of Forza Motorsport 7, the most recent instalment of this acclaimed driving saga. Luckily, the wait will come to an end on October 10, when Forza Motorsport launches on Xbox Series X/S and PC and marks a new departure for the license. Although there is still a month left for it, at Vandal we have already been able to try it for an hour, a very promising first contact that has left us very satisfied and wanting more.

A car tailored to you

Thus, we once again find ourselves faced with a racing game in which we must overcome a series of competitions that take place in a succession of closed circuits. Unlike what happened in its predecessors, the really important thing here is not to collect cars and get increasingly better and more competitive vehicles but to find a few that we like and invest time with them to improve them and take them to the maximum of their capabilities.

A game to last

‘Forza Motorsport’ will have 500 cars and 20 circuits, although the idea of Turn 10 is to turn the game into a platform that will be updated over time. Not in vain, they have promised us that you will receive updates every month and they will include, for free, new events, new cups, new circuits and new cars.

This is due to the inclusion of a new real-time experience system that will allow us to level up our cars to unlock new parts with which to improve them. Everything we do during a race, whether it is cornering well, overtaking, cutting our times or driving cleanly, will reward us with experience points for the car we are using, and level-ups will result in obtaining new parts with which we can equip the car to improve its performance. Each piece that we equip has a cost and there is a maximum limit that we cannot exceed among all of them. And yes, they all affect driving more than noticeably, so we will have to find a balance if we want its performance on the asphalt to be optimal.

There are tons of slots in which we can equip various parts, including things like engine oil and cooling, displacement, brakes, stabilizer bars, injection and air filter, among many others, so it seems that the customization system will be quite deep and will give us a lot of freedom to configure our vehicles to our liking.

The progression and customization of our cars will be one of the most important elements of this new proposal. Something that we liked is how all this is presented to us since you don’t need to be an automotive expert to adjust the cars and improve their performance. Not in vain, the configuration menus are very similar to what we could expect from a role-playing game, so it will be enough for us to select slots and choose pieces while graphics show us the advantages or disadvantages that we obtain with each of them. In case you still find all this overwhelming, there is a quick upgrade button so that the game itself automatically decides which parts we will equip.

The pleasure of driving

But as much as Forza Motorsport includes a deep progression and customization system, this is first and foremost a driving game and where it shines is when we are behind the wheel of any of the 500 cars that have been included. The differences concerning the seventh instalment are very palpable from the first moment thanks to the redesign that the physics and other systems have undergone, such as how the tires respond and react on the asphalt or the wear that the road suffers with passing. of the turns.

Driving could hardly be more satisfying, something that has been achieved, above all, thanks to its new and improved physics system.

It’s a game that makes the simple act of driving extremely fun, satisfying and convincing, and the way the cars behave is exactly what we would expect from their real counterparts, allowing us to notice the traction, suspensions and weight, which completely changes the gaming experience depending on the car we are driving and the configurations we have previously made.

As often happens in these cases, it is difficult to convey in words what we felt with the controller and steering wheel in our hands, but we can assure you that Turn 10 Studios has nailed it, something that, of course, also extends to behaviour. of cars in crashes, off-track and mechanical damage.

As expected and is now common, an infinite number of accessibility and driving assistance options have been added so that we can adjust the gaming experience to our needs, being able to enjoy a greater or lesser demand in driving according to our tastes and preferences. Some have even seemed a little invasive to us, such as the one that allows us to make the game itself brake automatically when entering a curve and adjust the speed so that we can trace it well without releasing our foot on the accelerator, but it is still an option. more that we can deactivate at any time. And yes, the possibility of rewinding to correct errors also returns in case we want to do so.

Although we have not been able to test the multiplayer, it will have a weekend format with a practice session, another qualifier and the main event. In the version to which we have been given access, we have been able to play the tutorial and the first cup of the new Career Mode for one player, which consists of three races with their corresponding practice sessions. One detail that caught our attention is that in this mode there is no qualifying session, something that, by the way, will be in the multiplayer mode. Instead, a feature called ” Grid Challenge ” has been added here that allows us to select the position in which we want to start the event. The further back we go, the more extra points we will receive if we manage to finish on the podium, a curious risk and reward mechanic with which we can test ourselves if we wish.

The circuits in which we have been able to play have been Maple Valley, Hakone, Grand Oak, Mugello and Kyalami, very affordable tracks, but well designed, and that have given rise to very exciting situations, something which also have a lot to play. say the AI of our opponents, who will not hesitate to block our way to make overtaking difficult, will pressure us to get nervous and will even make mistakes, so the feeling of competing against them is far from being that of a mere obstacle course.

A visual spectacle

On a visual level, it is a very spectacular game. Of course, at a graphic level, it is not far behind either and the title delights our eyes with impeccable and highly detailed modelling, spectacular lighting, a very high drawing distance, high-quality textures and very successful effects, such as the fog that exists when we run first thing in the morning or the very realistic way in which vehicles suffer damage in crashes. And all this with crystal-clear image quality and at 60 images per second in its performance mode for Xbox Series X, the platform on which we played. Finally, the sound leaves us with effects as forceful, powerful and successful as one would expect, allowing us to enjoy the roar of the engines and the noise of the tires on the asphalt at full power.

A promising new starting point

As you have seen, our first impressions with Forza Motorsport have been very positive. It is a game that looks and plays great, and the system of customization and improvements of our cars seems to have a lot of crumbs, pillars robust enough to maintain the entire title on their own as long as they manage to withstand the type of long term and in all its contents. Of course, we still have many things to see and discover, since we have only tried a small outline of what will be its main mode for one player, not to mention that we have not been able to taste the multiplayer yet, so we will have to wait to get your hands on its final version to be able to evaluate it properly. Be it one way or another, our first races have confirmed to us that there are plenty of reasons to be excited about what’s new from Turn 10 Studios, so if you like the genre, It’s probably an appointment you don’t want to miss.
