Chainsaw Man Online: Character Origins – Cosmos Devil

1 years ago By AI Smith

Cosmo is a female fiend from China and a private devil hunter. She was one of Quanxi’s girlfriends and represents the fear of omniscience and gaining knowledge of the universe.

Appearance: A Unique Look

Cosmo has a distinctive appearance. She possesses a corpse with spiky pink shoulder-length hair styled into pigtails. Her hair is adorned with red hair bands. Her eyes have heart-shaped pupils, colored in shades of orange-red or yellow-red. Notably, her right eye hangs out of its socket, and while it’s unclear how much it sticks out, it seems to be retractable. The upper right side of her head is missing, revealing her brain, which extends past her face and is tied into a bow at the end. She wears an orange cropped sweater, light blue high-waisted shorts, and pink sneakers.

Personality: More Than Meets the Eye

At first glance, Cosmo appears to have a limited range of emotions, usually sporting a smiling, happy-go-lucky demeanor. She rarely speaks, except for repeatedly saying “Halloween.” Like the other fiends under Quanxi’s command, she remains devoted to Quanxi and harbors romantic feelings for her.

However, when Cosmo uses her powers on Santa Claus, her true inner personality emerges. She displays the ability to engage in normal conversation and converse with Santa Claus. Her manner of speaking becomes straightforward and formal, showcasing a logical and detached personality. Interestingly, Cosmo doesn’t display strong emotions, even when confronted with her girlfriends’ murders. She explains that she lacks the emotional depth to be upset about the “course of nature.” This reveals a more rational and emotionless side to her true self.

Plot: A Role in the International Assassins Arc

During the International Assassins arc, Cosmo is depicted as one of Quanxi’s girlfriends, along with Pingtsi, Long, and Tsugihagi. Like the other fiends, she remains loyal to Quanxi and follows her closely. Throughout the arc, she only utters the word “Halloween.” When Santa Claus kills Quanxi’s other girlfriends and threatens Quanxi, Cosmo is instructed to launch a full-scale Halloween attack on Santa Claus. Cosmo complies and telepathically brings Santa Claus into her mind.

In their mental encounter, Cosmo reveals her true identity as the Cosmos fiend and explains that her attack on Santa Claus is part of the natural order. She claims to be on the verge of gaining complete knowledge of the universe, which will consume her thoughts until her death. As predicted, Santa Claus and her dolls are left semi-catatonic, fixated on Halloween. Despite her assistance in defeating Santa Claus, Cosmo meets her demise along with Quanxi and Tsugihagi when beheaded by Makima.

Abilities: Tapping into the Powers of Fear

As a fiend, Cosmo cannot form contracts. However, she possesses the standard devil abilities. Being the embodiment of the fear of infinite knowledge in the cosmos and outer space, Cosmo’s power increases with the fear people have towards understanding the universe.

Devil Powers

  1. Total Understanding: Cosmo can transport someone’s mind into her own mind, which resembles a vast library-like dimension. There, she forces the target to comprehend everything in the universe. This leaves them in a semi-catatonic state, where their thoughts are solely focused on Halloween until their death. The target needs to mimic Cosmo’s saying of “Halloween” for the ability to work effectively.
  1. Omniscience: Cosmo possesses all the knowledge in the universe within her mind. This grants her the potential for omniscience. However, due to her fiend nature, she is unable to access or utilize this knowledge effectively. Outside of using her power, Cosmo doesn’t display omniscience. In fact, she often appears unaware or unprepared for various situations. Additionally, her inner personality, which accepts the natural order of hunting or being hunted, expresses concerns about death and reacts anxiously in dangerous situations. Nonetheless, compared to her victims, Cosmo retains a higher degree of functionality, as she doesn’t fall into a semi-catatonic state like them.

Cosmo is a unique and intriguing character in the world of Chainsaw Man, with her enigmatic powers and complex personality. Despite her tragic fate, her impact on the story and her role in the International Assassins arc remains significant.
