Worlds 2023: Venue

The Play-In Stage and Swiss Stage will unfold in Seoul, setting the stage for thrilling clashes between the participating teams. Subsequently, the Quarter and Semi-Finals will head to Busan, known for its enthusiastic esports fans and vibrant gaming culture. 

The Grand Finals, where the crowning glory of Worlds takes place, will be held at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul – the largest indoor venue in the country, boasting a capacity of nearly 17,000 spectators.

Worlds 2023: Starting Date & Schedule

Due to the 19th Asian Games taking place in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, 2023, Riot Games has slightly adjusted the starting date of Worlds 2023. The tournament will kick off on October 10, 2023, giving competing teams from different regions ample time to make their way to South Korea.

The schedule for Worlds 2023 is as follows:

  • Play-In Stage: October 10-15 at LoL Park in Seoul.
  • Swiss Stage: October 19-23 and October 26-29 at KBS Arena in Seoul.

Knockouts Stage:

  • Quarterfinals: November 2-5 at the Sajik Indoor Gymnasium in Busan.
  • Semifinals: November 11-12 at the Sajik Indoor Gymnasium in Busan.
  • Worlds Finals: November 19 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.

New Tournament Format for LoL Worlds 2023

Riot Games is introducing an exciting new format for Worlds 2023 to keep the competition fresh and engaging. The tournament will feature 22 teams, and the competition will be divided into three rounds:

Play-Ins:

The Play-In Stage will have 12 teams divided into four groups of three. Each group will play a double round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance to the next stage.

Stage 2 (Swiss Stage):

The eight teams that advanced from the Play-In Stage will face off in the Swiss stage. Here, teams with similar win-loss records will compete against each other in a best-of-five format. Teams that secure three wins will proceed to the Knockouts stage.

Knockouts:

The Knockouts stage will feature the eight teams that survived the Swiss stage. It will follow the familiar single-elimination format, with Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the Grand Finals determining the World Champion.
