Asian Games Esports Events Will Have A Total Of Seven Titles, India Competing In Four Titles
The Asian Games 2022 is set to make history with the formal inclusion of esports as a competitive discipline. After being showcased as a demonstration event in the previous iteration, esports will now take center stage at the prestigious games.
A total of seven esports titles will be featured, and India is gearing up to compete in four of these highly competitive tournaments: DOTA 2, EA Sports FC 24, League of Legends, and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition.
EA Sports FC 24 (formerly FIFA Online 4)
EA Sports FC 24 brings the excitement of football to the virtual world. In this game, players take control of teams composed of real-world football players, allowing them to engage in thrilling football matches. While it replicates the essence of real football, the key difference is that players have direct control over their team’s actions.
Two players face off against each other in a match that lasts approximately 15 minutes, complete with a halftime break. The player who scores the most goals emerges victorious. Gamers can assemble custom teams, selecting from current players or legendary football icons of the past.
Format: All games, including the final, will be played in the best-of-three (BO3) format.
Team India: The Indian contingent for EA Sports FC 24 includes Charanjot Singh and Karman Singh Tikka.
League of Legends
League of Legends (LoL) is a strategic team-based game where each player controls a powerful fantasy character. Teams of five players compete against each other on a sprawling map, working collaboratively to defeat their opponents by destroying their base.
The ultimate goal in LoL is to destroy the enemy’s Nexus, a structure located at the heart of each team’s base. Two teams clash in intense battles to secure victory.
Roles in League of Legends:
Top: Dominates the top lane and excels in 1v1 battles, with the ability to teleport across the map.
Jungler: Roams the jungle, collecting gold and experience, and creates 2v1 situations through surprise attacks.
Mid: Occupies the central lane, favors powerful champions, and deals heavy damage.
ADC (Attack Damage Carry): Ranged damage dealers who grow in power and become key players.
Support: A utility role that roams, uses crowd control to disrupt enemies, and empowers allies.
Players earn gold during the match, which they can spend on items to enhance their characters. These items range from armor to magic resistance, attack damage to speed, and ability power. Each player can carry up to six items simultaneously.
Format: The group stage games will be played in the best-of-one (BO1) format, while the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final will follow the best-of-three (BO3) format.
Team India: The Indian squad for League of Legends consists of Akshaj Shenoy (captain), Samarth Arvind Trivedi, Mihir Ranjan, Aditya Selvaraj, Aakash Shandilya, and Sanindhya Malik, with five players participating in each match.
Street Fighter V: Champion Edition
Street Fighter V is a thrilling one-on-one fighting game where players select unique characters, each with their own special moves and abilities. They engage in martial arts-style battles, much like a grand martial arts tournament.
Players can choose from 40 different characters, each possessing distinctive abilities. To win, they must master attack and defense strategies, building combos to outmanoeuvre their opponents. A typical Street Fighter V match lasts between 1-2 minutes and consists of two rounds.
Format: All matches, including the final, will be played in the best-of-three (BO3) format.
Team India: India’s representatives for Street Fighter V: Champion Edition are Mayank Prajapati and Ayan Biswas.
DOTA 2
DOTA 2, which stands for Defense of the Ancients 2, is another strategic team-based game. In this game, two teams of five players each strive to destroy the enemy’s Ancient, a central structure in their base while defending their own. Players control heroes, each with unique attributes, abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.
The average duration of a DOTA 2 match ranges from 30 to 40 minutes. There are three lanes connecting the two Ancients, each with its own significance. Teams must work together to become strong enough to take down their opponent’s Ancient.
