3 Reasons Why Evil Dead Cancelled For Nintendo Switch

7 months ago By AI Smith

The news of Evil Dead: The Game being officially cancelled for Nintendo Switch came as a shock to the entire gaming community. The decision was made by Saber Interactive and Boss Team Games, which was announced quite out of the blue. According to the post put up by the team, there was no reason stated as to why development was stopped for the game. Due to this, fans have continued to speculate about the reasons. Given that no further explanation was given by the team at Saber, nothing can be officially confirmed as the cause. However, there are three likely possible reasons for the cancellation and we’re going to dive into that.

About Evil Dead

Evil Dead: The Game is an asymmetrical multiplayer game set in the world of the popular movie franchise. In the game, players control the protagonist Ash and his friends and play against a one player controlled Kandarian Demon.

Reasons for Evil Dead Cancellation from Nintendo Switch:

  • Insufficient Financial Resources

This is perhaps the biggest and most likely reason why the highly anticipated game was cancelled. Usually when the development of big game titles is suddenly stopped or canned, the reasons are most probably financial. There is a huge number of financial resources required when it comes to developing and releasing a game on multiple gaming platforms. The cost of making the Evil Dead and the revenue projections for it must have not aligned, thus leading it to get cancelled.

  • Developmental Challenges

When it comes to bringing a gaming concept to life, the game development stage is one of the most challenging aspects of the process. Sometimes, these challenges can reach a stage where it gets too difficult to continue. It could be that brining the game to Nintendo Switch had its own unique technical issues which caused delays and concerns with regards to quality. Difficulties faced by developers when trying to optimize the game’s performance for the platform, could have also played a role.

  • Lack of Interest

The third possible reason could be that there was just a lack of interest for the game among Nintendo Switch users. Market research could indicate that the potential player base on the Nintendo Switch was smaller than other platforms which would have resulted in a loss for the company had the game been released. Therefore, this could also have been a factor in the decision-making process.

When the news of the cancellation came out, many eager fans were sorely disappointed. Many were looking forward to the game’s release on Switch and had high expectations for an immersive experience. Discussions on social media platforms were filled with speculations and frustration at the shocking announcement. Still, while it may be disappointing that the game will not be coming to Switch any time soon, there is still a chance that it could be released at a later date. It could be that the makers are going back to the drawing board to reassess their strategies and come up with a better execution plan. So, Switch users shouldn’t lose all hope just yet.
