Will there be a movie of The Legend of Zelda with Illumination? What we know
A trusted source in Hollywood assures that the agreement between Universal and Nintendo, which will not be cheap, would be closer to closing
It is clear that after the huge success of Super Mario Bros Movie, which today is the second highest-grossing animated film of all time, Illumination and Nintendo are working on new ways to expand their collaboration. The most logical step, beyond a sequel to the aforementioned film, is to bring The Legend of Zelda to the big screen.
Especially if we see how the latest video game in the franchise, The Tears of the Kingdom, is becoming one of the biggest phenomena in the world of entertainment in recent years. But what we think is one thing and what those who can make this project come true decide is another. Luckily, a Hollywood assurance source tells us to get ready.
“What I’m going to say is I think it’s not a big surprise… But I have heard that Universal is closing ‘a big deal’ with Nintendo for The Legend of Zelda. I mean, it would be the next big Nintendo franchise that Illumination would take to the big screen. It’s what we’ve all been waiting for, and I’m told it’s happening, although it will cost Universal a pretty penny after the success of Super Mario. Nintendo is aware of its potential, but the project will come true” – Jeff Sneider, film critic at Collider.
