Why Did Bengi Announce His Resignation As T1’s Head Coach?
League of Legends team T1’s head coach, Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong, has announced that he will no longer be a part of the team. He has decided to stepped down from his head coach position halfway through the LCK 2023 Summer Split. He officially announced his resignation on 7th July 2023.
When Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok’s exited the team lineup because of his wrist injury, the teams form has started to decline. After that the team has had many ups and downs. The biggest shock came when the team suffered a shocking loss at the hands of DRX, who were not exactly at their best.
First Faker and now with Bengi stepping down, T1 has only uncertainty lying ahead of them. The news also raises questions on their journey to Worlds 2023.
The past one month saw the team go through a less-than-inspired start to the League of Legends LCK 2023 Summer Season. First, they faced fan criticism after their multiple defeats, followed by Faker’s indefinite absence due to his wrist injury, and now Bengi resigning.
There are speculations whether T1 would decide to make changes to the team to improve their performances. Being known as one of the best LoL teams in the world there is double the pressure on the team currently.
Becker Jung, T1’s general manager, shared a post on Twitter expressing gratitude to Bengi for his contributions to the organization. He stated that being a team jungler and head coach, Bengi’s commitment and dedication leave an indelible mark on the team.
The real reason why Bengi suddenly decided to resign is still not known, since neither Bengi or T1 team has given any clarifications.
Jae-hyeon “Tom” Is T1s New Head Coach
Nonetheless, Jae-hyeon “Tom” will step into Bengi’s showes for the rest of 2023. His role will involve overseeing the ongoing LCK Split as well as any international events, such as the League of Legends World Championships in South Korea if T1 manages to secure a spot.
T1 has still not revealed if they would retain Tom’s services or bring in a new head coach in 2024.
