Why BetBoom’s Pure Disqualified From DOTA 2 Bali Major? Reasons, Replacement & More
The DOTA 2 community was left in shock and disbelief as BetBoom Team’s offlaner, Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko, faced disqualification from the highly anticipated Bali Major 2023.
Following a violation during the series against Tundra Esports, Pure’s actions prompted tournament organizers at IO Esports to take swift action. In this article, know the three key reasons behind Pure’s disqualification and the subsequent impact on BetBoom’s participation in the tournament.
Violation of DPC Rules
During the match between BetBoom and Tundra Esports, a critical moment unfolded when Pure alt-tabbed his game and momentarily switched to the Twitch stream of Aleksandr “Nix” Levin. This act directly violated the DPC rules, which explicitly prohibit players from watching any broadcasts while competing in an official match.
According to the rulebook, only Steam, Dota 2, and Teamspeak are allowed to be open during LAN events. Unfortunately, Pure’s action had serious consequences, leading to the nullification of BetBoom’s previous victory against Tundra Esports.
Overturned Victory and Lower Bracket Placement
As a consequence of Pure’s violation, IO Esports officials announced the overturning of BetBoom’s 2-0 victory against Tundra Esports. This decision placed BetBoom in the lower bracket of the Bali Major, jeopardizing their chances of advancing further in the tournament. The disqualification also cast doubt on BetBoom’s qualification for The International 2023, as the victory against Tundra had previously secured their spot based on DPC points.
Disqualification and Stand-In Replacement
In a significant blow to BetBoom’s Bali Major campaign, tournament host Neal “Tsunami” Khandheria publicly announced Pure’s disqualification from the series as well as the rest of the event. With the disqualification in effect, BetBoom enlisted the services of Roman “Resolut1on” Fomynok, a two-time TI finalist, as a stand-in player. Despite the replacement, BetBoom suffered a 2-1 defeat against Azure Ray, subsequently bowing out of the Bali Major with a 9th-12th place finish.
BetBoom’s Response and Hopes for Reconsideration
Acknowledging Pure’s violation of the tournament’s rules, BetBoom emphasized that there was no malicious intent behind his actions. The organization expressed disagreement with the severity of the punishment and submitted an official request to Valve, hoping for a thorough analysis of the case and an objective resolution. BetBoom remains optimistic that Valve will carefully consider the circumstances and provide a fair outcome.
BetBoom statement on its telegram handle:
BetBoom Team has released an official statement regarding the recent incident that occurred during their match against Tundra. The team acknowledges that there was a short alt-tab during the game, which violated the rules, but they assert that there was no malicious intent on the part of Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko.
They emphasize that the incident, happening in the ninth minute of a nearly two-hour match, could not have significantly impacted the outcome. However, BetBoom Team disagrees with the severity of the punishment imposed on them.
They have submitted a formal request to Valve and are awaiting a response, trusting that Valve will consider their request with due diligence and provide an unbiased solution. In the meantime, Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko will be temporarily replaced by Roman “Resolut1on” Fominok.
BetBoom Team expresses their hope for a fair resolution that takes all circumstances into account and commits to working with The Bali Major organizers, Valve, and all stakeholders to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The disqualification of BetBoom’s Pure from the DOTA 2 Bali Major has sent shockwaves through the competitive scene. The violation of DPC rules, resulting in the overturning of a previous victory, has significantly impacted BetBoom’s standing in the tournament. As the DOTA 2 community awaits Valve’s response to BetBoom’s appeal, the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fair play and adherence to tournament regulations.
