What’s the Deal With Team Liquid?

What's the Deal With Team Liquid?

When it comes to the League of Legends esports competitions, Team Liquid has a legendary status. Over the years, they have become one of the best and most respectable organizations in the esports industry, and their results showed the level of seriousness that team’s officials introduced into the organization.

As a result of that, more and more companies and individual sponsors have signed deals with Team Liquid which enabled the team to have access to the funds that not many other teams can match. Over the years, Team Liquid has gained huge experience, and one thing is sure – they always had an eye for talent.

Over the years, Team Liquid has struggled a lot to achieve what they have achieved, and their results and the atmosphere in the team were not without its problems. For many years, it seemed that no matter what players they bring in and no matter how talented those players are Team Liquid has always had problems with their play. That fact has led many to conclude that the problem was not in the team or the players but rather in the organization far higher than the players in the team. Because of that, amazingly talented Adrian and Doublelift could not help a lot to solve those issues for Team Liquid.

Deepening the Issues

Usually, desperate times call for desperate measures, and sometimes those measures work. However, Team Liquid’s desperate times called for a desperate measure that only contributed to the deep state of problems that the team finds themselves in.

It seems that the team has been guided by the principle of trying everything without carefully thinking about their moves. One such move came when Team Liquid decided to move their world champion, Piglet, from the position in which he played for more than five years to the position of midlane where he did not manage to perform as well as expected. Some commentators and analysts are even saying that bringing in Doublefit was not a smart decision and that they would perhaps be even better had they kept Goldenglue.

Future Not Looking Bright

For Team Liquid 2017 could be better. However, three months into the New Year, it seems that this year will be even worse than the previous ones. During 2016 they managed to overcome the problematic issues, and 2017 was the big year in the announcement.

However, despite signing huge sponsorship deals and despite bringing in some of the world’s best talents for League of Legends, Team Liquid failed to perform at the expected level. The question is, how the team with such experience and talent can be so inefficient at the tournaments that they play. Other teams that have been part of esports world for as long as Team Liquid, such as Cloud9 or CLG, have managed to use their experience and combined it with the talent of younger players to become some of the most respectable esports organizations in the world.

Team Liquid does not have problems with the money, they have enough experienced players, and they have enough young and extremely talented players in their roster, and yet, they cannot turn that into a story of success. It remains to be seen whether Team Liquid will manage to overcome all the problems or if they become “once great” Team Liquid.
