What Is The Status For Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Compatibility On PlayStation 4?
Despite rumors to the contrary, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will also be available on the PS4 and Xbox One consoles from the previous generation. TheGamingRevolution, a creator of COD content, tweeted a picture from the Microsoft store that only featured the Xbox Series S/X logo. This was unprecedented for the franchise, but it makes perfect sense given that every major studio is gradually attempting to capitalize on the hardware of the newer consoles.
The tweet raised questions about a last-generation launch. It felt unfair to the green team, though, because the game’s teaser stated that both PlayStation generations would receive a release. It turned out to be just a Microsoft store error, and the Xbox One version has since been added to the store.
As publisher Activision has scheduled a global reveal for August 17, the website currently points to the Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 store page. Like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard, which were both revealed inside the original Warzone game, this will be an in-game event. Interestingly, Modern Warfare 3 was listed as an add-on on Steam, in contrast to earlier reports that suggested it would be a stand-alone $70 release. This is noteworthy because, as Activision Blizzard has said in multiple quarterly conference calls, Modern Warfare III is a premium release.
The publisher provided a prepared statement to trustworthy tipster CharlieINTEL, stating that it will be priced appropriately at $70 USD. Call of Duty games were going to be packaged as “add-ons,” meaning that they would all be playable through the Call of Duty HQ launcher.
This also lines up with an InsiderGaming report that stated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 beta codes used the same “concept ID” as Modern Warfare 2 codes, which is to say, “last year’s game codes, just reissued.” Players will have easier access to the central hub and content carry-over as Call of Duty MW2, MW3, and Warzone will all be displayed on the same menu. Weapons and cosmetic items like operators and skins you unlocked in Modern Warfare 2 would be “Carried Forward” in this year’s game, it was confirmed.
Aside from Call of Duty: Mobile receiving an update that allows players to progress through the mainline games together, players can anticipate the integration of MW 3 content into the battle-royale Warzone experience. As the launch of Warzone Mobile draws nearer, more information about the latter will be disclosed.
Previous reports also mentioned that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 would get at least two beta weekends for multiplayer testing, with the first slot solely aimed at PlayStation — set to run from October 6–10. This may or may not change as Microsoft’s attempts to acquire Activision for $69 billion (about Rs. 5,72,571 crore) continue. The second beta weekend will allegedly run from October 12–16 and grants entry to Xbox and PC players as well, and there are seemingly plans for campaign early access for pre-order customers.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 releases November 10 across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
