A month or so ago, Fnatic Academy team secured a spot in the EU LCS after eliminating a team that defended that spot. However, soon after that, Riot announced that two teams owned by the same individual or company cannot participate in the same competition due to the possible conflict of interest. That meant that Fnatic Academy would have to sell their spot which they did eventually and Ninjas in Pyjamas joined EU LCS by purchasing that spot.
This Swedish eSports organization participated in LCS already, but they decided to leave the competition because of the bad performances that their team had. When the opportunity arose, Ninjas in Pyjamas decided to come back even though they did not have a fully developed plan for that action.
Series of Bad Moves
At the time when Ninjas in Pyjamas were negotiating about purchasing the spot, many claimed that this is not a good move for the Swedish team. It was obvious from the start that Ninjas in Pyjamas are not technically ready for the effort that EU LCS demands. Even though they were a member of this competition back in the day, things have changed, but NiP did not want to miss the opportunity for an easy return to EU LCS.
Another huge mistake that Ninjas in Pyjamas made after they announced that they have purchased a spot from Fnatic Academy is their move to bring in a totally new lineup for the competition. Even though a much better move for them at that moment was to keep the existing Fnatic Academy team as their own and to compete with that roster, NiP decided not to do that and to bring in the new lineup.
However, NiP management thought that they know better and they decided not to sign Fnatic Academy team which proved to be one of the crucial mistakes. At that time, Fnatic Academy was in great form, and they will for sure continue their form in the EU LCS competition as well. Instead, they brought in new players who did not have capabilities of doing anything more significant in the competition.
Currently, Ninjas in Pyjamas is in the fifth place in the Group A of EU LCS. However, the immense problem at this moment is the fact that they were defeated in eight games while they have failed to win in even single series. Because of that, many already believe that Ninjas in Pyjamas will be fighting in the relegation tournament that will be played after the end of the Summer Split.
With a 0W-8L record in the competition, Ninjas in Pyjamas is the only team that has failed to win even a single match which makes them the worst team in the entire competition, by far. Because of that, many have started to wonder whether or not NiP’s return to League of Legends and EU LCS was the right move that they should have made.
Based on what we have seen so far, it seems that they would be better without joining the competition because their League of Legends team is ruining the reputation that Ninjas in Pyjamas have achieved by becoming very successful in other eSports competitions over the years.
