Last year’s EPICENTER Dota 2 tournament proved to be one of the most interesting tournaments of the entire season. According to some commentators and analysts, EPICENTER 2016 has outdone some of the Major tournaments as well. Because of that, the expectations for this year’s tournament are extremely high. So far, organizers have not revealed many details about the tournament, but they have revealed the names of two teams that received the invites for the main event. The first that received the invite was OG, a team that won the title at the Kiev Major that was played last week. The second team that received the direct invite for the EPICENTER: Moscow 2017 is Evil Geniuses who have proven that they are returning to good form at the Kiev Major.
Virtus.pro receives Third Invitation
The most recent news from EPICENTER about their Dota 2 tournament say that Virtus.pro has received the third invitation for the main event of this tournament. Virtus.pro has been on the rise in the last couple of months, and the culmination of that good form came just last week when they faced OG in the final match of the Kiev Major. However, they could not go all the way, and OG managed to defeat them in the best-of-five series final. According to the organizers, the recent results that Virtus.pro had at Dota 2 tournaments are more than enough reasons for EPICENTER to send them the third invite for the main event of the tournament. Considering that Virtus.pro joined OG and Evil Geniuses as a team with the invite, it can be said that we are in for a very interesting tournament because these teams will, without a doubt, be among the last standing teams in this tournament.
For Virtus.pro this will not be the first time that their Dota 2 will be participating at the EPICENTER’s tournament because they were participating in the last year’s event also but at that tournament, they failed to achieve any significant result, and they finished the tournament in the 7th-8th place. According to the Ilya ‘Lil’ Ilyuk, he is expecting a huge support at this tournament especially after considering how big support the team got at the Kiev Major. For Virtus.pro, this will also be an opportunity for them to play in front of their home audience for the first time which will make Virtus.pro even biggest contender for the title than they already were.
EPICENTER: Moscow 2017 will be played from June 9th to June 11th this year, and it will be one of the last tournaments before The International 7. Because of that, these will not have many options to calculate with their forms because there will be very little time for them to change anything before the International. With three teams that received a direct invite for the main event being revealed, that leaves three more teams who will receive the direct invite to be revealed in the upcoming period. Virtus.pro, OG, Evil Geniuses and other teams will be fighting for the prize pool that at the EPICENTER: Moscow 2017 will feature $500,000 and the winner will go home with $250,000.
