The Kiev Major: Virtus.pro Extended Their Undefeated Run

Vedran Ostojic | May 1, 2017 | Dota 2 | No Comments

Virtus.pro managed to secure the top spots in the group stage together with Team Secret. Playing and winning three matches in the group stage, Virtus.pro made a statement to all other teams that they are back in good form and that they will be going for the title at the Kiev Major. The final match of the Day 1 of the Kiev Major Main Event was the match between Virtus.pro and Invictus Gaming Vitality and the series between these two teams was the series that finished the quickest of all four series of the Day 1. Before the series between these two teams started, Invictus Gaming Vitality had very little chances for defeating Virtus.pro because of their bad performance in the group stage. Virtus.pro did not allow any surprise in this series, and they eventually swept their way to the round two of The Kiev Major playoffs.

Invictus Gaming Vitality had a pretty good run at the previous Dota 2 tournament, Dota 2 Asia Championship, where they finished fourth. However, they did not manage to bring that good form to the Kiev Major, and it became clear after the group stage that Invictus Gaming Vitality will be able to reach much further than the first round of the playoffs. As it was expected, Virtus.pro demolished iG.Vitality in their match and they managed to advance to the second round with five games win and only one game lost through the entire group stage and the first round of the Playoffs.

Game One

During the draft, iG.Vitality picked Riki, and that caused the fans in the audience to react loudly, and during the initial stages of the game one, Riki enabled iG.Vitality to claim the first kill of the game. However, it did not take a long time for Virtus.pro to take over the control of the game and to build their advantage in the number of kills and the net worth. iG.Vitality managed to resist Virtus.pro for 33 minutes but those 33 minutes proved to be very hard for iG.Vitality as they struggled in all lanes and all fights. Virtus.pro followed their plan perfectly, and it soon became obvious that iG.Vitality will not have a lot of success in that match up. After 33 minutes of the game one, Virtus.pro hit iG.Vitality so badly that they were forced to call GG enabling Virtus.pro to claim the win in this game one.

Game Two

The game two of the series between Invictus Gaming Vitality and Virtus.pro proved to be even shorter than the first game. It took little more than 30 minutes for Virtus.pro to claim the win in the second game as they managed to pull off one successful rotation after another. In that kind of game, iG.Vitality was not able to adapt to that kind of play, and they continued to slip further as the game progressed. Virtus.pro maintained the fast pace in game two and with the most aggressive play so far, Virtus.pro pressured iG.Vitality in all lanes which eventually led them to claim the win in the second game and in that way, Virtus.pro advanced to the second round of the Kiev Major playoffs.
