Team Secret and Virtus.pro First To Advance To The Playoffs At The Kiev Major

One of the biggest Dota 2 tournaments this year has started on April 24th, and after only two days of the competition, we already have two teams that have secured their spots in the Kiev Major Playoffs. Those two teams are Team Secret and Virtus.pro. Both of these teams managed to displayed amazing performance in the first three round of the group stage of this tournament and eventually that lead them to secure their spots in the playoffs very early.

Virtus.pro VS TNC

The second day of the competition featured four teams that were undefeated in the first day going against each other and the first match of the day was the match between Virtus.pro and TNC. The Filipino squad is without a doubt the biggest surprise of the tournament so far, and that was shown in their match against Virtus.pro as well. The game one of their match started very aggressively with both teams attempting to close the game to their advantage, but neither team was able to do that for more than 75 minutes of the game one. Even though Virtus.pro was a better team in that game, TNC and their Carlo ‘Kuku’ Palad on his Tinker kept Virtus.pro away from the team’s base and with that he prevented Virtus.pro from reaching TNC’s base for the majority of the first game.

However, in the later stages of game one, TNC had significant problems in team fights which Virtus.pro started winning, and in the situation where TNC could no longer buyback any of their crucial heroes, Virtus.pro was able to blow a crucial punch that led TNC to concede the first game. In the second game, TNC has lost their footing, and the entire game went to the Virtus.pro side. Vladimir ‘No(o)ne’ Minenko on his Phantom Assassin did not face any resistance from the TNC’s side, and eventually, he managed to gather 13 kills in game two which led Virtus.pro to win the second game and their match against TNC. With that win, Virtus.pro became the first team that secured their spot in the Playoffs of the Kiev Major.

Team Secret

However, the biggest surprise of the entire day was Team Secret who managed to defeat one of the biggest if not the biggest favorites for the win at this tournament, Invictus Gaming. As we have already said yesterday, Invictus Gaming is having some noticeable problems in their games, and those problems were very much showing in their match against Team Secret. More importantly, Invictus Gaming could not win even a single game against Team Secret, and eventually, that cost them the highest seed for the Playoffs.

The Kiev Major has been played for only two days now, and it is already clear to everyone that this year’s edition of the tournament will be remembered in history as the tournament with some of the biggest upsets ever seen in Dota 2 competitive matches. The group stage of the Kiev Major is still not over, and because of that, we are expecting more amazing matches and with that more upsets and surprising results.
