Team AU Hits 1300FPS In CS2 After Overclocking New Intel 14900K

6 months ago By AI Smith

Things are just getting more intense in Counter-Strike 2. Epic records are already being made in the recently released Counter-Strike 2 (CS2). Team Australia Extreme Overclocking, whose name alone clearly suggests what they are well-known for: overclocking PCs, just recently managed to reach an incredible feat. Team AU, using the new i9-14900K from Intel, hit a four-digit FPS in Counter-Strike 2. This achievement by Team AU has got the entire gaming community buzzing with excitement.

What did Team AU do to be able Hit the Record?

According to reports, the new CPU which had been dialed up to a mind-blowing 9GHz, can boost itself to 6GHz without any aftermarket help. To assist with the test, it has been noted that Team AU used a presumed RTX 4090. Not only this, but they also made significant modifications to the chip.

What Intel usually does is split its processors into Efficiency and Performance cores. While using them, these cores will then interchange as per the task at hand. However, Team AU managed to disable all Efficiency cores in order to get the most out of the CPU.

The team then were able to clock up to 1300FPS during the event with a minimum clock in of 900FPS. Now, with so much load, it is natural for the Intel CPU to run extremely hot which will then affect the result by shutting down if the temperatures get too hot. However, Team AU was prepared for this and had flasks of liquid nitrogen on standby to keep things cool and totally under control. This also just shows the amount of thought and preparation put into the task by the group of overclocking enthusiasts.

Not only was Team AU enjoying their attempt, even Roger Chandler, Vice President of Intel jumped in on the fun. The whole spectacle can be seen on a video uploaded online. In it, you’ll be able to see Chandler in the front and ready to pour liquid nitrogen on the PC as it continues to rise to hit 8GHz. The event was a moment to remember for all the attendees and Chandler even posted about it on his X (Twitter) handle.

How did Team AU Hit 1300FPS in CS2?

When it comes to hitting the maximum of 1300FPS in Counter-Strike 2, there are certain methods that are used. One of these methods includes directly looking at the floor and in the less congested areas. Towards the end, Team AU even starts playing the game to cheers from the crowd. Another video of the event shows that just before hitting 1300FPS, Team AU overclocks the RAM in order to squeeze more performance out of the CPU.

However, it seemed that they had to dial it back a little as the PC kept experiencing crashes and reverting to the Blue Screen of Death while using a lower frequency of RAM. While it is not ideal or possible to play Counter-Strike 2 at home at 1300FPS, the demonstration does indicate to what extent the hardware can be pushed. Interestingly, what this proves is that the Intel CPU hardware is one of the better ones in the market for gaming. While you might fry your Intel CPU at home even attempting to play CS2 at home, it is still a significant feat for the gaming and tech community.

More about the live-demonstration

The Core i9-14900K has a maximum boost clock of 6GHz which means that Team AU overclock represents a 33% overclock. This is a significant overclock, however, it is still way below the current world record of a whopping 9,043.92 MHz which was set by the Core i9-14900KF. Despite Team AU’s Core i9-14900K being nowhere near the world record, it still is a record holder in Counter-Strike 2. Not only was the record merely for show, the i9-14900K was stable enough for an audience member to play Counter-Strike 2 and even rack up multiple kills under their belt. As of now, there are no gaming monitors in the market that will be able to handle this time of frame rate. Although it does show, what can be achieved if gaming tech is given a little more time to be perfected.

Other Achievements by Team AU

This is not the first time Team AU has managed to break records for overclocking. They also broke the DDR5 world record, when they intensely drove Gigabyte’s DDR5-8333 16GB memory module to DDR5-11618. However, the system was hanging on the edge of stability as the team received a BSOD shortly after hitting the frequency mark. They were able to submit the record on time to HWbot and were officially the record setters for DDR5 overclocking.

With such insane feats being achieved on a regular basis, the gaming community is bound to be excited for upcoming upgrades as tech catches up to deliver the best gaming experiences. Stay tuned for more such exciting content.
