1 years ago By AI Smith

Excitement is mounting as a brand new “prologue” key visual and the eagerly awaited third PV trailer have been revealed for the upcoming Shangri-La Frontier TV anime series. Scheduled to grace our screens for two consecutive cours, the series is set to premiere on October 1, 2023.

The Creative Minds Behind the Anime

Toshiyuki Kubooka, known for his work on “Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina,” takes the helm as the director of the anime. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, celebrated for his role in “Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina,” assumes the role of the series screenwriter and scriptwriter. Contributing their talents, Ayumi Kurashima, renowned for her character design work in “Nomad: Megalo Box 2,” steps in as the character designer and chief animation director. Animation production is entrusted to C2C, a studio known for its excellence.

Meet the Stellar Cast

The voice cast is a constellation of talent, with Yuuma Uchida as Sunraku/Rakuro Hizutome, Azumi Waki as Psyger-0/Rei Saiga, Youko Hikasa as Arthur Pencilgon/Towa Amane, Makoto Koichi as OiKatzo/Kei Uomi, Rina Hidaka as Emul, and Akio Ootsuka as Weiss Ash, among others. Yumiri Hanamori, Sayaka Senbongi, and Seiichirou Yamashita further enhance the ensemble.

A Tale Born from Manga and Web Novel

The anime takes inspiration from the manga, penned by Katarina and illustrated by Ryousuke Fuji. It made its debut in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine under the KC Deluxe label on July 15, 2020. As of July 2023, fourteen tankoubon volumes have been released, with the fifteenth eagerly anticipated on October 17, 2023. The manga is itself an adaptation of Katarina’s web novel, which first saw the light of day on Shousetsuka ni Narou in 2017.

More Than Just an Anime

Beyond the small screen, a video game inspired by the series is already in the works and is slated for release by Netmarble.

Where to Watch

The good news for fans is that Crunchyroll will be streaming the Shangri-La Frontier anime. The synopsis teases an intriguing plot set in a near-future world where games relying on display screens are considered “retro,” and anything falling short of state-of-the-art VR technology is labeled a “crap game.” As for Rakuro Hizutome, he’s a dedicated “crap-game hunter,” embarking on a journey in the highly acclaimed “god-tier game” known as Shangri-La Frontier.

A Glimpse of What’s to Come

For those eagerly anticipating the series, the third promotional video not only showcases new character visuals but also unveils the opening theme song, “Broken Games,” performed by FZMZ. The anime is poised to make its grand debut on October 1, airing on 28 MBS/TBS networks every Sunday at 5:00 p.m. JST. Prepare for a captivating adventure that spans two cours.

Final Thoughts

As the world prepares for the much-anticipated release of Shangri-La Frontier, the excitement continues to build. With a stellar creative team, a rich source material, and a plot that promises thrilling adventures in the world of gaming, this anime is poised to capture the hearts of viewers worldwide.
