The Pokémon Company has announced a cartoon about playing with Pokémon cards in the real world alongside an online anime based on Scarlet and Violet. Announced during the August Pokémon present event Pokémon: Path to the Peak is a “short animated series” about a young girl joining a Pokémon card club at school before taking her talents to the top.

The first episode will premiere at the Pokémon World Championships in the Pacifico Yokohama National Convention Hall on August 11, though it’s unclear if the episode will be available online the same day.

This plot is particularly poignant these days given how popular the Pokémon card game has become. With record sales and a new online TCG tool, The Pokémon Company has put its cards on the map in recent years. So of course, it is about time Pokémon took a cue from Yu-Gi-Oh and made its card-based anime.
So far, it seem Pokémon: Path to the Peak will be a one-off animated short, but there could be more instalments down the line. It all depends on how the project is received, you know?
