Ninjas in Pyjamas have not been involved in the League of Legends competitions since 2013. However, it seems that might change very soon. According to the reports, Ninjas in Pyjamas are one of the eSports organizations to express interest for one of the spots in the EU LCS.
A couple of months ago, Fnatic’ and Misfits’ academy teams managed to win in the relegation tournament. With those wins, both teams secured spots in the EU LCS. However, since then it was revealed that the official rules don’t allow one eSports organization to have two teams in the competition. Because of that Fnatic and Misfits eSports organizations are obliged to sell EU LCS spot won by their teams.
Ninjas Testing Waters
According to ESPN, Ninjas in Pyjamas have approached Fnatic officials to obtain their EU LCS spot for $500,000. This is a surprisingly small price for the spot. Organizations that compete in the NA LCS have paid much much more to enter this competition.
However, the Summer Split of the League of Legends Championship will be starting very soon. Thus, all sides involved are required to solve this issue as soon as possible. The deadline for these two organizations to submit the bids for an EU LCS spot to Riot for approval has now expired. It seems Ninjas in Pyjamas might be the organization that currently has the biggest chances of purchasing one spot.
However, Ninjas in Pyjamas don’t have a good record in EU LCS competitions. At the time when they were participating in this competition, back in 2013, they failed to qualify for the EU LCS 2014 Spring Split. That failure was very surprising. At the time, Ninjas in Pyjamas featured players such Alfonso ‘mithy’ Aguirre Rodriquez who currently plays for G2 and Erlend ‘nukeduck’ Våtevik Holm. Despite that, Ninjas in Pyjamas team was relegated to Challenger Series after they were defeated by Team ROCCAT in a deciding match.
As soon as the reports about Ninjas in Pyjamas possibly purchasing that spot in the EU LCS, surfaced, the team owner, Hicham Chahine, has indicated that was not the case. However, that does not mean the reports weren’t true. It is totally expected that teams and their owners will deny these types of claims all the way until issues get officially resolved. Because of that, it does not mean that Ninjas is Pyjamas are not purchasing the spot but rather that they are not willing to comment on this issue yet.
The Second EU LCS Spot to Laser Kittenz?
On the other hand, it seems that Laser Kittenz will be obtaining the second spot in the EU LCS from Misfits Academy. Laser Kittenz, as an eSports organization, have been active for only a couple of months, but their owner, Ali ‘Alicius’ Saba has been managing several teams in the world of eSports. The Summer Split will be starting very soon, and because of that, it is expected that these issues will be resolved shortly. In the next couple of days, we are expecting the confirmation of which teams purchased those two spots in the EU LCS.
