What Is An Ancient City In Minecraft?
Ancient Cities is a type of structure in Minecraft that is generated within the Deep Dark. As mentioned earlier, it is a rare find hence not every Deep Dark biome will have an Ancient City. The only way to know if you’ve come to an ancient city is when you’re standing in it.
Ancient Cities are usually massive, have Sculk-lined caverns, and contain primarily Deepslate. They are generally lit with soul lanterns and the occasional torch. The structures in these cities are made of dark oak planks and wool is found on builds around the city.
How To Find Ancient Cities In Minecraft?
Just like other rare structures Ancient Cities have special maps leading to them. Locations like the Ocean Monument or Woodland Mansion, or the Strongholds, that can be spotted with the Eyes of Ender, however, Ancient City are not so easily found.
Simply head down to a Y-level of negative 52, then you will have to mine or cave until you find a Deep Dark biome, hoping that it has an Ancient City in it.
Ancient Cities can mostly be found under the mountain biomes. SO you will want to travel there. Once you reach underground, use the F3 screen to make sure you’re still underneath the mountains.
Another good way to help you find the Ancient City is by opening up the command page. On opening the command page, type in “/locate: AncientCity,”. You will get nearby coordinates except for the Y level. When you get the coordinates you can start digging down until you’ve reached – levels. But remember not to fall to your death.

Tips For Exploring Ancient Cities
Don’t Tempt The Warden
Ancient Cities are packed with Sculk Shriekers that activate the terrifying Warden, along with the Sculk Sensors which can trigger the Shriekers from even further away. Once the Warden is summoned, simply run.
Take A Potion Of Night Vision
You don’t want to go in completely blind in the ancient cities, it is advised to take some Night Vision potions along. Make this potion by combining a Golden Carrot and an Awkward Potion at a Brewing Stand. Make it stronger with extra Redstone.
Stay Crouched & Hidden
Stay crouched to avoid activating Sculk blocks by noise. Opening a chest also makes a lot of sound. To avoid this sound keep yourself and the chest with wool, thus avoiding triggering any Sculk.
