And he did so not by ordinary means but by using the true nature of his Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi: Nika.

The debut of devil fruit played a major role in the intense battle of Luffy-Kaido. Since Luffy has now defeated the Yonko, his path to the Pirate King title has become more clear. However, Blackbeard will not let that happen easily anytime soon since he also has the same ambition of becoming the Pirate King. 

The clash between the two characters who have the same ambition to get the Pirate King title is inevitable. Additionally, Blackbeard is the complete opposite of Luffy. Just like darkness and light cannot exist at the same time, Luffy and Blackbeard is a development marked by fate.
