League Of Legends Wild Rift Game Director Jared Berbach QUITS Riot Games
Jared Berbach, the talented game director behind the mobile spin-off of the immensely popular MOBA, League of Legends Wild Rift, has announced his departure from Riot Games. His exit from the company comes as a result of a “reduction in force” initiated by Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends. While this news undoubtedly marks a significant change in his career, Berbach remains optimistic and thankful for the opportunities he had at Riot Games.
In a LinkedIn post, Berbach shares, “After just short of four years at Riot Games, it’s time for me to embark on the next chapter of my career.” He candidly explains that, like many others in the games industry in 2023, his role was affected by a reduction in force.
Berbach looks to the future with optimism and excitement, expressing his belief that whatever comes next for him will be an exciting step forward in his ongoing pursuit of creating extraordinary gaming experiences for players. He reflects on his tenure at Riot Games, where he played a pivotal role in the launch of Valorant, Riot’s foray into the competitive first-person shooter market, directly competing with titles like CSGO and Overwatch 2. Additionally, he contributed to the League of Legends team both before and during his position as game director for LoL Wild Rift.
Acknowledging the impact of his colleagues at Riot Games, Berbach expresses his gratitude, saying, “I feel privileged to have walked the halls with so many industry giants that I had admired from afar, and they were all so kind and giving with their treasure troves of infinite knowledge.” He also commends Riot Games for its unwavering commitment to delivering value to players, highlighting the company’s relentless focus on player satisfaction.
For Wild Rift, Berbach’s departure represents a challenge as the spin-off game has already experienced several staff changes in 2023, particularly after Riot Games suspended its western esports tournaments for the title in November 2022. Additionally, Riot Games underwent layoffs in January, resulting in 46 employees leaving the company.
While Wild Rift faces these organizational changes, League of Legends players can look forward to the integration of some of the best Wild Rift skins into the main game.
