How Big Is The CS:GO Legacy Version On Steam?

1 years ago By AI Smith

Now that the highly anticipated release of Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) has finally come to pass, it seems that only positive reviews are in store for the game. However, while fans are enjoying the new installment on Steam, many are wondering if the previous version i.e., Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is still available on Steam.

This is because when Counter-Strike 2 was launched, it looked like the previous version was seemingly removed from the game library of Steam. This is the reason why; many players are wondering if they can still somehow access the old game.

Fortunately for players who don’t want to lose access to CS:GO, there is good news. It seems that the game is still accessible play even though it has been essentially replaced. The best part is, you won’t need to violate any terms and conditions in order to play the previous version, and you can do so through official channels. If you’re wondering why some players would still be interested in an old version when a new and improved version is out, one good reason could be nostalgia. The other could also be that they are more familiar with the old version and are not yet ready to transition just yet. So, let’s take a look at how one can access CS:GO.

In this guide, we will explain how players can access and download the CS:GO game on Steam. Before we began, do note that since CS2 has been officially launched globally, CS:GO will no longer have any official servers in the game. However, this won’t be a hinderance to players as they will now be able to tweak the game and its multiple community servers in order to enjoy their time on the game. With that being said, here is how you can still play CS:GO after the release of CS2.

How to access CS:GO legacy version on Steam?

If players think that getting access to CS:GO after the CS2 release will be difficult, then think again. Even though Steam has updated the game to the new version, players can follow the guide given below and quickly gain access to CS:GO. Just follow the simple steps given, and you’ll soon be on your way having fun exploring and playing the beloved previous iteration of Counter-Strike.

Step 1: Login your Steam account.

Step 2: Download Counter-Strike 2 on Steam.

Step 3: Head to the Steam Library.

Step 4: Open ‘Properties’ on Counter-Strike 2

Step 5: Click on the Betas Tab, you will get a drop-down menu.

Step 6: Select ‘csgo_legacy: Legacy Version of CS:GO’ from the menu.

Step 7: Now CSGO Legacy will begin to be downloaded onto your device.

Once the download has been completed, when launching Counter-Strike 2 players will get the option to play either Counter-Strike 2 or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. When this happens, just choose the CS:GO option and you will be able to play the older iteration without any difficulties. The game still has many community servers running which range from Free-For games modes, to PvE modes, to surfing, and so on and so forth. Given that Counter-Strike has such a massive player base, even a decade since its release, it is safe to assume that these community-servers will still be functional and running even after the release of the sequel.

How big is the CS:GO Legacy version on Steam?

Another question that many players have with regards to the CS:GO Legacy version is the file size. To put it simply, the file size of the CS:GO Legacy on Steam is 12 GB. If you correctly follow the steps that we have listed above, you will get a prompt regarding the details of the file and then you can choose whether to proceed to download and install the frozen version of the game.

One thing to remember is that while community-servers will still be up and running, all competitive and other public servers for CS:GO has been shut-down completely. These servers have now been directed to the Counter-Strike 2 servers. Now, the only features that will be available to access and use are Community Servers, Workshop maps, and offline practice modes. On top of this, once players run the game, they will also receive a notification that all functional support for CS:GO will come to an end on 1st January 2024.

But don’t worry, you’ll still be able to access and play the game. On the official Valve blog, it is written that what it means is that the game will lose some of its functionalities that rely on the compatibility with the Game Coordinator. For those who want to know what that means, just needs to understand that the gameplay of the game will not be hindered. Now that CS2 is out, a large part of the player base will shift to the CS2 servers, and CS:GO servers are likely to be visited by players who want to experience the game before the new update dropped. All-in-all, it seems like a win-win situation for all types of Counter-Strike players in the world.
