Goldenglue Rejoins Team Liquid’s Starting Lineup

The NA LCS Summer Split will be starting on June 1st. With one week to go before the start, all teams that will be participating are looking for ways to make sure that they are in the best possible form. The same applies for Team Liquid who did not have a good time during the Spring Split. After eight weeks of the Spring Split, Team Liquid realized that they need to change something in the team.

At that time, Team Liquid featured, among others, Chae ‘Piglet’ Gwang-jin, and Yiliang ‘Doublelift’ Peng. They were brought to the team in order for Team Liquid to avoid relegation. Part of that team was also Grayson ‘Goldenglue’ Glimer who did not perform as many expected of him.

A Second Chance For Goldenglue

After a couple of weeks of the Spring Split, Team Liquid decided to bench Goldenglue because of his bad performances. These were simply too apparent in the initial weeks of the competition. Piglet was moved in the team in order to take his position. At that time, Goldenglue was one of the worst players in the competition, at least according to his stats.

However, before he joined Team Liquid starting lineup and his incredible debacle in the initial weeks of NA LCS, Goldenglue was playing for Liquid’s Academy. This team was competing in the NA Challenger Series. While playing for the academy team, he displayed amazing performances from one week to another. That caught the attention of the Liquid’s first team and very soon, Goldenglue joined the first team of this organization.

However, as it would turn out, Goldenglue was probably under the big impression of NA LCS, and the entire Team Liquid organization. The pressure on him to perform well was getting higher and higher with each single day. A player like him, without a lot of experience in big competitions, just could not handle all that pressure. This reflected in his performances that just kept getting worse.

Additional Training

Despite his bad performances during that time, Team Liquid did not want to let him go, and he remained on the team, but he was removed from the starting lineup to make space for Piglet. After Team Liquid had benched Goldenglue, they sent him to South Korea back in February in order for him to work with coaches and to improve his personal skills and team play.

Apparently, Goldenglue has managed to improve significantly as Team Liquid announced that after Doublelift left the team and returned to Team SoloMid, Goldenglue will be returning to his position in the starting lineup for the Summer Split.

Final Thoughts

It is not often that we hear about certain eSports organization that is willing to wait for a player to improve while still being under contract with that team. Because of that, the move that Team Liquid did with Goldenglue deserves all the respect . The question is, whether or not, Goldenglue will be able to handle the pressure this time. That remains to be seen.
