Garena, the developer of Free Fire and a division of Sea Limited, recently announced that they have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh government.

The strategic partnership with the multinational game developer and publisher aims to advance the state on the esports map using the regional data centers of Yotta Data Service, a company under the Hiranandani Group.

This significant MOU was signed on July 28, 2023, in the K. D. Singh Babu Stadium Lucknow in front of all interested parties.

Meanwhile, The Madhya Pradesh government has also recently announced and begun registration for the MP State Junior Esports Championship BGMI Tournament. Since the Indian government has now publicly recognized esports as a component of multi-sport events, these reforms occur at a crucial time for local gaming and esports.

According to rumors, Garena will stage international esports tournaments in the region as a result of the existing MOUs. Yotta Data Services will be utilized by the company with its Singaporean headquarters for the same.

Additionally, an MOU has been established with the Hiranandani Group organization to host data centers and the cloud for Garena’s services in the country, including esports. Government of Uttar Pradesh Collaborates with Garena and Yotta to Promote International Competitions in Esports

The UP Government had intended to give esports a significant boost as part of its new sports policy back in March of this year. The goal was to establish an ecosystem that would support esports in both the state and India.

The initial actions mentioned include completing the following essential goals:

  • By researching the domestic and global esports ecosystem, a model for finding talent and developing skills will be created.
  • establishing an esports facility in Uttar Pradesh with the assistance of businesses in the private sector.
  • giving esports players access to the same facilities as sportsmen in other sports.
  • creating a structure of incentives and rewards for esports participants.
  • organizing and staging esports competitions and events at both the national and international levels in Uttar Pradesh.
  • supplying each district’s esports athletes with the necessary infrastructure.
  • incorporating esports into a variety of benefit programs.
  • eSports are being promoted at colleges and schools.
  • encouraging parents to embrace emerging opportunities in the gaming and esports industries rather than dismissing them as undesirable habits.

These international events will undoubtedly provide a platform for Indian esports athletes to showcase their abilities. Furthermore, it will aid in the growth and expansion of associated sectors.

Garena has an MOU with Yotta, which has data center parks in Uttar Pradesh for its Indian services, despite the fact that Garena’s MOU with the Uttar Pradesh government is primarily for the expansion of esports. This could be crucial in reintroducing the game to the country.

Garena has not yet commented on Free Fire’s relaunch, but its debut in India so soon after Krafton’s success in reviving BGMI might have a significant impact on the growth of mobile esports there.
