Founder Of iNSANE Esports Linked To Illegal Call Center Activities, Arrested In Guwahati
Debojyoti “David” Dey, owner of Team Insane Esports, has been detained by the Guwahati Police for operating a contact center scam, which is a startling turn of events. It has been determined that David, Rajen Sidana, and Dibyam Arora were behind the operation of illegal call centers in Guwahati. Three masterminds and 250 other persons who had been defrauding people for the previous two years were captured during an operation across the city by the Guwahati Police’s Crime Branch. As one of the largest names in the Indian esports scene, Insane Esports, this is tremendous news.
Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Borah said, “Reliable intelligence input was received that some scammer gangs are operational in Guwahati and are involved in operating call centers and cheating Indians and foreign nationals by impersonating technical support staff. They would also pose as customer support representatives.”
He added that the con artists pretended to be bank employees, representatives of the government, representatives of well-known organizations, etc. when they targeted people using pop-up ads and toll-free numbers. Once they gained access to the victims’ personal devices, they would convince them that they needed to act quickly by claiming that their bank information had been stolen, only to trick them into paying with Bitcoin and gift cards instead. According to a police official, the con artists used misleading strategies such using fake toll-free numbers and Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls, which are phone conversations made through the Internet.
The Guwahati Police Crime Branch conducted raids at eight different locations throughout the city to dismantle the multi-million dollar fraud. Bamunimaidam, Borbari, Rajgarh, Gandhibasti, ABC Point, and Ganneshnguri in Guwahati were among the locations where the raids were carried out. 47 ladies, all between the ages of 21 and 25, have been arrested by the police out of a total of 144 people. In addition, they seized a variety of electronic devices, including 26 mobile phones, 164 desktop computers, 90 laptops, and several other gadgets.
The owner of Team Insane Esports, Debojyoti “David” Dey, has been named as one of the masterminds behind the entire scandal, which has come as a huge shock to the Indian esports community. David has long been a well-known figure in the esports world, but this episode will undoubtedly prompt serious inquiries about whether or not his own esports organization was involved in these unlawful acts.
