EU LCS Playoffs: G2 Esports and Unicorns of Love in the Grand Finals

Vedran Ostojic | April 24, 2017 | League Of Legends | No Comments
EU LCS Playoffs

LCS in EU has been going on for some time now, and after nine weeks of action, only two teams have left, and they will be battling out in the final this weekend. The final match of the EU LCS Playoffs will feature French team G2 eSports and Unicorns of Love fighting for the biggest title for both teams in this season so far. This will be the match between two teams that use different styles of plays, and because of that, it will be very interesting to see who will adjust to the opponent’s game better. Because of that, the team that manages to do that might end up victorious at the tournament.

G2 eSports have, in the recent period, become the best League of Legends teams from Europe and rarely any team was able to match them at any of their previous tournaments. Because of that, G2 eSports will be the favorite for the win, but that does not mean that Unicorns of Love do not have any chances. Semi-final match between G2 Esports and Fnatic proved that G2 are still humans and that they too can make mistakes and that they are not undefeatable. The problem for Fnatic in that match was their inability to convert those mistakes and opportunities into something big and possibly to win the match.

EU LCS Underdogs

On the other hand, Unicorns of Love will be underdogs in this final, but the crowd and the atmosphere at the venue in Hamburg might carry them to some new heights. However, in order to preserve their chances of winning against G2 eSports, Unicorns of Love will have to dominate from the very start of the match. In that way, they would prevent G2 from accomplishing their game plan and put them in a situation in which they have not been at this tournament so far. Not only that they have to dominate from the very beginning, but Unicorns of Love will also have to make G2 respond to their moves because that will prevent G2 from making their own attacking moves in this match.

The weak links

Besides that, it seems that the biggest opportunity for Unicorns of Love in this match might be G2’s players Jesper ‘Zven’ Svenningsen and Dae-han ‘Expect’ Ki who proved to be the weakest links in the G2 eSports team at this tournament. Their bad performances have especially been obvious in the last couple of matches, and it is expected that they will be repeating that kind of performance in the final match as well. Another advantage for Unicorns of Love in this match might be the fact that there are no big names in the team and that their communication during the match is well established and most importantly they are playing together without any player stepping up. On the other hand, it is not that rare that we see certain players from G2 like Luka ‘PerkZ’ Perkovic and others stepping up and taking over the control of the match and becoming the leader of the team in the given match.

The final match of the EU LCS Playoffs will be played on April 23rd. The winner will go home not only with the slice of the prize pool and the title but also with the spot at the Mid Season Invitation that will be held in Brazil on April 28th. The stakes are high, and even a single mistake can cause one team to lose everything.
