EU LCS: Ninjas in Pyjamas Remain Single Winless Team

Vedran Ostojic | July 4, 2017 | League Of Legends | No Comments

EU LCS is well under way and going in the fifth week of the competition. Two teams failed to win a single series in the first four weeks of the competition. The matchup of the fifth week featured those two teams going against each other. That match that would leave only one team without a win. The match between Mysterious Monkeys and Ninjas in Pyjamas has been characterized from the beginning as the match between two teams that will be fighting to stay in the competition.

Interestingly, both teams have joined EU LCS this Summer Split. They managed to acquire the spots in the competition that the academy teams of Fnatic and Misfits secured through Promotion Tournament. However, that did not help these two organizations at all. It seems likely they will be leaving the competition after only one split.

The Changes in the Roster

Before the matchup against Ninjas in Pyjamas, Mysterious Monkeys were looking for a way to improve their performance. They were looking to save the season which has been going terribly so far. Because of that, the team decided to make a significant change in their roster in the middle of the Summer Split.

Around ten days ago, the news broke about Mysterious Monkeys signing two players. The team signed Maurice “Amazing” Stückenschneider and Mateusz ‘Kikis’ Szkudlarek. Before those two players were announced, Mysterious Monkeys also announced that Leon ‘Lamabear’ Kruger and Park ‘Jisu’ Jin-cheol have left the team.

Both of these players were members of the Fnatic Academy team that won the place in the EU LCS through the promotional tournament. However, after Riot announced the change of rules that prevent two teams from the same organization to participate in LCS competitions, Fnatic sold their spot to Ninjas in Pyjamas.

After that, Fnatic announced that they will be releasing the entire Academy team and no longer host the second team. With that announcement, players who won their place in the EU LCS fair and square were left without an organization. An even bigger blow was the news that NiP will not be signing any of the players that secured them the place in the competition. This left the players without an opportunity to play in this competition.

The Matchup

Mysterious Monkeys dominated throughout the entire match. This enabled them to claim the victory in that game very quickly. For Mysterious Monkeys, this was the last call for saving the season. Ninjas in Pyjamas, on the other hand, have practically lost all chances of avoiding relegation tournament.

Many League of Legends fans are saying that Ninjas in Pyjamas are getting what they have deserved because their performance in the Summer Split has been far from what usually featured in EU LCS. According to those fans, it is possible that NiP run in EU LCS might be one of the shortest ever as they are not looking good at all and half of the Split has already been completed.
