Esports to Be a Part of the 2022 Asian Games

Esports to Be a Part of the 2022 Asian Games

The 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou won’t be occurring for a while but a number of sports have been announced. Sports like basketball, baseball, badminton, gymnastics, karate, kabaddi and wushu will be held at the event. Esports will also be at the Asian Games.

The Olympic Council of Asia announced that eSports will be featured as a medal sport during the 2022 Asian Games. It makes for one of the most noteworthy developments in the field and is expected to be rather popular. It could also entail some of the more popular games in the world that have been big in today’s eSports industry.

The OCA states that it is excited to offer eSports as an event in 2022. The organization is devoted to supporting the development of sports that are prominent around all of Asia. The organization has also made a partnership with Alisports to promote the development of eSports around the continent. This especially comes as eSports has become rather popular around many parts of Asia, most notably in Korea and China.

Teams and competitors from various countries are expected to participate in the eSports games. China, Japan and South Korea are the most prominent countries that participate in the Asian Games. Various other countries like India, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Singapore and Taiwan are expected to participate as well.

What Games Will Be Played?

It is uncertain as to which particular eSports would be included at the Asian Games. Dota 2 and League of Legends have been promoted as being the most likely options for competition due to the extensive number of competitors in those games.

The arrangement for the games is unclear as where. Like with many other major events, it is expected that there will be a series of different qualifiers leading up to the event. This may also entail individual teams competing to be representatives for their countries. Because the competitors in the Asian Games are organized by country, people from each team will be from the same countries.

Also, it is expected that standard teams will be competing and not just individual competitors. This is provided that all the games involved are among the more traditional eSports events out there.

An Upcoming Demonstration

Esports will make an appearance during the 2018 Asian Games. It has been named as a demonstration sport for the games in Jakarta. This means that eSports will not be a medal event but a few matches will be held during the Asian Games to introduce the concept to more parts of the world. Specifically, demonstration sports are often held as a means of gauging the interest of a sport to see if it can be included in the future.

A Sooner Competition

One competition devoted to eSports will be taking place a little sooner. In September, the Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Turkmenistan will host a few events in the discipline. Dota 2 and FIFA 17 are among the games that will be played at the event. This is expected to be a precursor to some of the upcoming events that will take place in the future
