EPICENTER Moscow 2017

EPICENTER’s Dota 2 tournament that will be held from June 9th to June 11th in Moscow will be one of the biggest and best tournaments that Dota 2 eSports scene will feature this year. Last year’s edition of the tournament proved to be very successful, and after the tournament, many players and other eSports professionals characterized EPICENTER’s Dota 2 tournament as one of the best-organized tournaments of the entire year. EPICENTER did not officially confirm many things when it comes to this year’s tournament but the things that were officially confirmed are related to the venue of the competition as well as to the format of the competition.

The format of the competition will feature ten teams competing in this tournament. Six out of those ten teams will receive the direct invitations for the tournament while the remaining four spots at the main event will be filled with the teams that win the regional qualifiers. The qualifiers for the EPICENTER Moscow 2017 will feature open and closed qualifiers and the best teams in those qualifiers will have the opportunity to fight for the prize pool of $500,000. As said not many things have been officially confirmed by the organizers, but yesterday, organizers have announced the first team that received the first direct invitation and who confirmed their participation at this event. That team is OG.

OG To Go For The Title

Without a doubt, OG is currently one of the best Dota 2 teams in the world, and it is no wonder that the organizers have decided to give the first invitation to this team. OG are a three-time Valve Major Champions, but there are many more achievements that have brought them in this position. Some of those achievements or results are the win at the Boston Major, second place at the Summit 6, fourth place at the MarsTV Dota 2 League as well as top-three finishes at the DAC 2017, StarLadder iLeague, Dota Pit Season Five, Elimination Mode 3.0 and many others. Besides that, OG are currently the biggest favourite for the title at the upcoming Kiev Major that will be starting on Monday, April 24th.

Last year’s tournament saw Team Liquid crowned champions after a dramatic final match against Newbee. Last year’s winner went home win $250,000, and the same amount will be awarded to the winner of this year’s tournament. The runner-ups will go home with $100,000. When it comes to the prize pool distribution, it needs to be said that only the teams that finish in the top ten at this tournament will be receiving a reward in a certain amount of money.

As we have said earlier, the main event of the tournament will take place from June 9th to June 11th. However, the group stage of this tournament will be played from June 4th to June 7th, and this group stage will eliminate four teams that will not be competing onstage on the given weekend. If OG manages to keep their current form, there would be hardly any team that could match them at this tournament, and it will be very interesting to see whether some other team will be able to challenge OG.
