The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive eSports competitions are getting more interesting with the passing of each single day. The next competition in line is the PGL Krakow Major, and the organizers have already announced some names that will be receiving invitations for this tournament. Among the first teams that received the invitation for the Main Qualifiers were the French eSports team EnVyUs and they seemed set for a place in the tournament, but things have just taken an interesting turn.
Roster Changes Cost EnVyUS and G2 Sports Main Qualifiers Spots
In the previous tournament, the ELEAGUE Major, team EnVyUs had the following line-up: Jenny ‘KennyS’ Schrub, Nathan ‘NBK’ Schmitt, Dan ‘apEX’ Madesclaire, Christophe ‘SIXER’ Xia and Vincent ‘Happy’ Schopenhauer. At that event, EnVyUs failed to win in the playoff when they were eliminated, and that automatically meant that they would be one of the eight Challenger teams for the next Major tournament in Krakow. Before the Qualifiers for the PGL Krakow Major 2017, the unwritten rule was that the Challenger teams would be joining the qualifications in the last round or as it is known in the Main Qualifiers. However, this all changed right before the start of the PGL Krakow Major 2017 qualifiers.
Soon after the end of the ELEAGUE Major, EnVyUs underwent some major roster changes and this has now cost them a place in the Main Qualifiers for Krakow. Soon after the previous Major, EnVyUS went through the roster change, and in that process, KennyS, apEX, and NBK left EnVyUS and joined another French eSports team, G2 Esports. However, EnVyUS reacted very quickly, and they managed to sign Alexandre ‘xmx’ Forte, Adil ‘ScreaM’ Benrlitom and Cedric ‘RpK’ Guipouy. However, since ScreaM and RpK have already played at the Major tournament this year that caused PGL to revoke their invitations for the Main Qualifiers. According to the officials, for a team to keep their Challenger or Legend status, it has to have three players that have acquired that status. Because of that, since three players that played at ELEAGUE Major left EnVyUS they have lost the majority of players with Challenger status.
However, team EnVyUs was not the only team whose Main Qualifiers invitation was revoked. The team involved in the exchange of players, G2 Esports, also went through a similar situation. When the PGL Krakow Major organizers received the information about what has happened they decided that neither team fulfills the requirements for receiving the Main Qualifiers invitations and because of that, organizers stripped them of their Challenger status.
Tournament Vacancy To Be Filled By A European Team
PGL organizers have announced that vacancy in the Main Qualifiers will be filled with the team from the European Minor which means that they increased the number of spots that European teams will be receiving from two to three. For team EnVyUS, the goal of playing at the PGL Krakow Major 2017 has thus dramatically decreased. In order to gain one of the three places in the Main Qualifiers, they will have to go through several rounds of qualification starting from the online qualifiers for the Europe Minor.
The PGL Krakow Major is still in the organizational stage but it has already given us some excitement and drama and we cannot wait to see all the fun that the actual tournament is going to bring.
