DreamHack Valencia 2017: Qualifiers Announced

Ivan Potocki | June 6, 2017 | Counter-Strike | No Comments

Next big DreamHack Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament will be DreamHack Valencia 2017, featuring a $100,000 prize pool. This competition will feature eight teams from different parts of the world, which will be heading to Valencia. There, they will be fighting for the previously mentioned prize pool and the title of the DreamHack Champion.

Since last several DreamHack tournaments proved to be more than interesting, the expectations for the one in Valencia are quite high. Teams will feel that pressure even in the qualifiers rounds that will take place during the last weekend of June. DreamHack Valencia will be another CS:GO tournament or another stop of the ASTRO Open competitions. These are being organized in all parts of the world.

DreamHack Valencia 2017 Format

As we have mentioned before, this event will feature eight teams competing in the Main Event. Out of those eight, five will be receiving a direct invite for the Main Event. Teams that go through open and closed qualifiers will take up the remaining three spots.. According to DreamHack’s announcement, there will be two waves of open qualifiers. These matches will determine which teams will be playing in the closed qualifiers.

The qualifiers for this tournament will take place in three regions: European, North American, and Iberian. Iberian qualifiers have already been played, and the team that won one of the three available spots was KPI Gaming. KP Gaming defeated Giants Gaming in the final match of the qualifiers.

Organizers have limited the number of teams that could participate in open qualifiers to 512. However, only four teams will advance to the closed qualifiers. There, those four teams will have four other teams that will receive a direct invite for the closed qualifiers joining them. This will enable them to fight for two available spots in the Main Event.

Those teams who are thinking about applying for the place in the open qualifiers need to know that DreamHack Valencia has already started accepting the applications. Teams can apply by using the ESEA website.

EU Qualifiers

Open qualifiers for the European region will play out on June 24th. The start of the competition has been scheduled for 15:00 (CEST). As we have said, only four teams that prove to be the best will secure their place in the closed qualifiers.

On the following day, four best teams from open qualifiers and four teams with the invitations will face each other in the closed qualifiers. The battle will continue until there is only one team standing. The winner of the closed qualifiers will automatically secure their spot in the DreamHack Valencia 2017.

NA Qualifiers

North American open qualifiers will also play out on Saturday, June 24th. The format of the open qualifiers is the same as for the European region. That means that four best teams from open qualifiers will be advancing to the closed qualifiers that will take place the next day.

As it is the case with closed qualifiers in Europe, four invited teams and four teams from open qualifiers will be going head to head for one place that guarantees the participation at the Main Event of DreamHack Valencia 2017.
