DreamHack to Host CS:GO Seniors Event

Michael Fox | May 16, 2017 | Counter-Strike | No Comments
CS:GO Seniors

With most people in the eSports world being in their twenties or even their teens, it is clear that the industry is aiming to try and bring in older people. As a result, DreamHack is promoting a new CS:GO Seniors tournament that will be held at the DreamHack Summer 2017 event from June 17-20 in Jonkoping, Sweden.

DreamHack is hosting four different CS:GO tournaments. These include ones for junior players and one for women. The most distinctive event is its CS:GO Seniors championship.

The competition will be open to CS:GO teams with players who are all at least 30 years of age. It will be a BYOC or Bring Your Own Computer tournament.

The CS:GO Seniors event comes amid beliefs that the average age of a competitor eSports player is in one’s early twenties. This is especially as there is a belief that after a while, a player’s response time for any eSports game will start to decline. This causes older players to become less attracted to the game. This special DreamHack tournament is designed for older players who might not be accepted in a number of other tournaments.

Details on the CS:GO Seniors Tournament

The event will work with up to 64 CS:GO teams. All the players are at least 30 years old each. The CS:GO Seniors event will work in three particular stages. First, there will be a group stage that will cut the teams from 64 to 32 within one day. The terms for how the tournament will run may still change. This will depend on how many teams will actually participate in the CS:GO Seniors event.

A second group stage will then be held on the second day. This will cut the teams to 16 in total and will lead into the final, single-elimination part of the tournament.

The third day will feature a playoff between the sixteen teams that are left. This will be a single elimination event. The battle will go on until all teams but one are eliminated.

The top team in the tournament will get 10,000 SEK. This is equal to about $1,100 US. The second place team will get 5,000 SEK. Product prizes will be given out to other teams who make it far enough in the tournament.

Registration Point

DreamHack is currently taking in registration for teams for the CS:GO Seniors event and all other tournaments. The seniors event will need to confirm that each person on a team will be able to compete in a tournament. This is done so to ensure that each player involved can actually get into the event.

All players will have to show proper legal identification at the event. This is to not only confirm a person’s identity but to also ensure that the person is indeed at least 30 years old.

This event is just one of many other specialty CS:GO tournaments that DreamHack will hold at the DreamHack Summer 2017 event. The juniors and womens tournaments are expected to be popular as well. The tournaments are designed to invite many talented CS:GO players that might otherwise not be able to get into some of these events due to who they are.
