DreamHack Atlanta 2017: Winners of the Qualifiers Revealed
|
In less than a month, DreamHack Atlanta 2017 will take place in Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. This will be the third big tournament in July alone, because ESL One: Cologne is played at the start of the month. One week after that tournament, the next Counter-Strike Major tournament will play out in Krakow.
The closing tournament for this month will be DreamHack Atlanta 2017. Considering this tournament will offer winners the chance to take home additional $1 million, this should be a very exciting opportunity for all involved.
DreamHack Atlanta 2017 Participants
Organizers have announced that eight teams will be participating in the Main Event of this tournament. Six of those will be getting a direct invite for the Main Event. Two teams that go through the qualifiers round will fill the remaining two spots. One place was secured for one team from the European region. The second place was reserved for the winner of the North American qualifiers.
So far, DreamHack has not announced the names of the six teams that will be receiving the direct invite. It is possible that they have already sent out those invites but that teams did not respond yet. This wouldn’t be a surprise because of the tight schedule that awaits them in the next couple of weeks. That, however, did not prevent, DreamHack from organizing qualifiers in two regions and from revealing the names of the teams that won their spot in the Main Event through qualifiers.
European Region
The winners of the European qualifiers were Binary Dragons. This is a team from Serbia that has been on the rise in the last couple of months. With them steadily improving their form lately, it was just a matter of time when they would grab the opportunity to participate in some big CS:GO tournaments. That happened when they went 6-1 in the qualifiers for DreamHack Atlanta.
Currently, members of Binary Options are Dorde ‘DjOXiC’ Niciforovic, Nestor ‘LETN1′ Tanic, and Luka ’emi’ Vukovic from Serbia, Macedonian Anel ‘NENO’ Cekovic , and Nemanja ‘huNter’ Kovac from Bosnia and Herzegovina. In European qualifiers, they took down Spartak Esports for their place in the Main Event of this competition. Interestingly, Binary Dragons have finished in the top four at each tournament in which they participated since March of this year.
North American Region
When it comes to the North American region, Misfits were the favorites from the start of the qualifiers. In the end, they managed to defeat Ownage in the final match of the qualifiers. With that win, they secured their spot in the main event of the DreamHack Atlanta 2017.
Over the last several months, Misfits has had some excellent results. This includes the second place at the CyberPower PC Extreme Gaming Series, where OpTic Gaming defeated them in the finals. Besides that, they finished in the 3rd/4th place at the DreamHack Tours 2017, which guarantees that the will be one of the biggest contenders for good placement in this tournament as well.
