Curious Case of Luminosity Gaming Overwatch Team

Ivan Potocki | August 30, 2017 | Overwatch | No Comments

Luminosity Gaming is the North American eSports organization that currently hosts teams in several eSports competitions including Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, and Overwatch. While their other teams have displayed a roster stability, their Overwatch team has been going through some rough times, which led the entire roster to express their wish to leave the team.

Luminosity Gaming’s Overwatch team is competing under the name LG Evil and they did not have a lot of success in the competition during the last year. Big opportunity for them came when Blizzard introduced Overwatch Contenders, a new Overwatch competition, and LG Evil saw their opportunity in that competition. However, things did not go as planned and now they have to face the consequences.

Selling the Entire Team

Strange things are happening in this organization with their Overwatch team. Luminosity Gaming has never spoken about shutting down their Overwatch operation but they are looking to sell their entire roster to a team that will be competing in the Overwatch League. Besides that, Luminosity Gaming did not have any objections when the entire roster expressed their wish for leaving the team and joining some other organization.

Luminosity has been trying to find an organization for their entire roster but they have not been successful in doing so. Because of that, LG announced that they will be leaving it to the players to find their new homes in the Overwatch competitions which means that this roster will most likely not stick together in the future.

One of their players who has been the loudest in his attempt to find a new team is Jake Lyon who has been LG Evil’s best player for quite some time. He said that ideal scenario would be if he gets to sign with a team that will be competing in the Overwatch League. When it comes to Jake Lyon, he actually has good chances for actually achieving that. Not only has he been the best player in LG Evil but he has also been one of the best Overwatch players in North America which got confirmed by the fact that he was selected as one of the players for national Overwatch team of the United States for the Overwatch World Cup.

Sticking by Their Team

In all those efforts to find the new organization for their players, Luminosity Gaming has done something that rarely any other organization would have done. Even though players expressed their wish to leave the team, LG stated that they will be sticking with their players even though they will not be competing.

Besides that, Luminosity Gaming also confirmed that they will continue to pay salaries to their players no matter the circumstances until they managed to find the new team for themselves. At this moment, Luminosity Gaming has not said a final farewell to the Overwatch Contenders competition nor any other third-party tournament but at this moment it seems that LG Evil will be making a short break from the competition.

They also stated that they will be open to new, young, and talented players and if the opportunity arises they will be coming back to Overwatch Competition but for now, LG will not be part of any Overwatch tournaments.
