Club America the First Mexican Sports Team to Join eSports Industry?

Club America to join eSports industry?

The trend of established professional sports teams entering eSports through establishing their own eSports teams is nothing new. In the last couple of years many sports teams have done exactly this. A Huge majority of those teams come from Europe. However, there are many teams from North America that have done the same thing.

Looking from which sports these teams are coming, the majority are actually soccer teams. That being said, the latest team that announced their entrance into the eSports industry isn’t from these parts. Rather, they are from Central America, or Mexico, to be more precise.

Great Stadiums to Be Filled with eSports Fans

Mexican Club America has announced that they will be entering eSports industry in the near future. Once that happens, Club America will become the first ever team from Mexico to get involved with eSports in some way.

In the world, Club America is famous for their stadium. Their main stadium can accommodate more than 87,000 people. With that kind of numbers, Club America’s stadium, eStadio Azteca, is one of the biggest stadiums in the entire world. In the near future, this stadium could also be hosting some eSports events. It could also become the home for the team playing under the flag of Club America.

The first announcement of this was released on Twitter, but Club America has said nothing more on the topic. They just made an announcement that big things are coming in the future. However, it is still not clear in which way will Club America be entering eSports. Will they be forming their own team or will they enter the eSports industry through sponsorship deals with other organizations and teams?

Although the information is scarce at the moment, we could make some educated guesses following the trend established by other soccer teams from Europe. It is a strong possibility that Club America might be competing in the FIFA eSports competitions as other soccer teams are doing as well.

Is FIFA the Way to Go for Club America?

However, there are those teams that have recognized that FIFA eSports competitions are almost irrelevant in the world of eSports. Because of that they entered their teams into some other competitions. FC Schalke 04 is a great example of this practice.

Even though it seemed like a logical move for Schalke 04 to start competing in FIFA, the team decided against it. In the end, they introduced a team that will be competing in the League of Legends competitions.

Club America is one of the most successful soccer teams in Mexico. So far, they managed to win 12 titles which is more than impressive. The club did not reveal in which eSports they’d be competing, but they promised more information in a near future.

If we can make any conclusions from what has happened in Europe, they will not be the last professional sports team to join the eSports industry. Club America just might start a new trend. In the near future, we could see an avalanche of teams from Central and South America becoming a part of the eSports world.
