Chainsaw Man Online: Character Origins – Pochita
Pochita, also known as the Chainsaw Devil, is a central character in the series who embodies the terrifying nature of chainsaws. Originally the Chainsaw Man himself, Pochita later becomes Denji’s heart, playing a vital role as the overarching protagonist of the story.
The Devil Form
Following his intense battle with the Four Horsemen and Weapon Devils, Pochita enters a “near-death state.” In this state, he takes on the appearance of a small orange canine-like Devil with a chainsaw-like appendage protruding from the center of his head. He possesses handles on his body that allows him to be wielded like a chainsaw, while his short tail resembles a chainsaw’s pull cord.
Normal Form
Pochita’s true Devil form is that of a large, humanoid creature with four arms, each equipped with a chainsaw. Another chainsaw emerges from the front of his head, similar to Denji’s hybrid form. He wears an intestine wrapped around his neck, resembling a scarf or collar.
The Hybrid Form
After forming a contract with Denji, Pochita assimilates himself with Denji’s heart, becoming an integral part of Denji’s anatomy and creating a hybrid entity. Denji can transform into Chainsaw Man by pulling the chainsaw cord in his chest. In this state, Pochita becomes smaller, and loses the chainsaw on his head, all his appendages, and handles. Pochita retains his adorable canine face, and Denji’s chainsaw cord is directly connected to the top of Pochita’s head.
Personality
Pochita’s communication is unique among Devils, as he solely expresses himself through barks and whines, resembling an actual dog. However, after fusing with Denji, he gains the ability to communicate telepathically with him. Pochita frequently communicates with Denji through dreams, often cautioning him against “opening the door.”
Despite the general Devil’s disdain for humans, Pochita deeply cares for Denji, who saved his life. He willingly sacrifices his heart to Denji, enabling him to pursue his dreams, which Pochita adores. Pochita displays an astute understanding of Denji’s character, even mimicking his personality and behavior to deceive Makima.
Abilities
Regarded as the most feared Devil among Devils, the Chainsaw Devil is one of the most powerful entities in the series, surpassed only by the Primordial Devils. He effortlessly fends off hordes of Devils in Hell, and the pursuit of his heart triggers an international conflict. Even Makima, one of the Four Horsemen, considers herself inferior to him and relies on public adoration to weaken and defeat him.
As a Devil, the Chainsaw Devil possesses the standard Devil abilities, including making contracts with humans, restoring his health by consuming blood, and revival in Hell after death. However, some aspects of his personality remain unchanged. Regardless of how many times he is killed, he returns to exterminate other Devils.
Physical Prowess
Immense Speed: Renowned for his incredible speed, the Chainsaw Devil swiftly overwhelms opponents such as Makima and the hybrids before they can react. His movements are so swift that he appears to teleport, leaving adversaries defenseless.
Immense Durability: The Chainsaw Devil possesses an incredibly resilient body, capable of withstanding sonic lashes, explosions, piercing attacks, massive concussive blasts, and atmospheric entry burns. Even when weakened by public adoration, he survives Makima’s Thousand Year Spear attack, albeit in critical condition.
Immense Strength: As Chainsaw Man, Pochita’s strength is so great that he struggles with basic social interactions like giving or receiving hugs. During a visit to a burger joint, he accidentally kills locals with minimal arm movements. To avoid harming Kobeni, he must carry her using his intestine scarf. In battle, his attacks can demolish buildings and effortlessly decapitate adversaries.
Immense Healing Factor: As a full Devil, Pochita’s regenerative abilities are exceptional. He can fully regenerate his body from just his heart, even after throwing it from space, without requiring blood. Additionally, Denji cleverly uses Pochita’s healing factor by removing his heart temporarily, allowing Pochita to regenerate and mimic Denji to deceive Makima.
Devil Powers
Devil Erasure: The Chainsaw Devil possesses the ability to consume other Devils, erasing the names and physical existence of the “devoured” Devils from public consciousness. Historical events and concepts related to the erased Devils are also forgotten. However, the exact details of this ability remain unclear, as some individuals can recall erased names.
Chainsaw Appendage: Reflecting his embodiment of the fear of chainsaws, Pochita possesses a chainsaw-shaped appendage protruding from his head, which functions as a real chainsaw. Activation occurs when the cord in his tail is pulled. In his full Devil form, he possesses chainsaw appendages on his arms and can generate chainsaws from his legs.
Chain Entanglement: Pochita can disconnect the chains from his chainsaws to ensnare and draw opponents closer to him. He can capture multiple adversaries simultaneously. It is rumored that he once used his chains to traverse buildings swiftly, although this has not been witnessed recently.
Body Assimilation: Pochita can fuse with a human body, fully restoring it to health. Denji undergoes this fusion, resulting in the creation of a hybrid entity. Makima later reveals that this fusion is a consequence of their contract. In exchange for Denji leading a “normal life,” Pochita becomes Denji’s heart.
Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil, represents an unprecedented force of fear and power in the series. From his distinctive forms to his remarkable abilities, Pochita’s presence shapes the narrative and impacts the lives of the characters around him. As the Chainsaw Man’s heart, Pochita’s sacrifice and unwavering dedication to Denji demonstrate the depth of their bond.
