Whether or not to drink the potion of Omeluum, an Underdark mind flayer. It is one of the many important decisions you will be able to make during your Baldur’s Gate 3 adventure. In this case as part of an optional quest after meeting said character in the Myconid colony and agree to bring him the ingredients he requires to prepare the drink. But should you trust Omeluum? Is it a good idea to ingest his potion or could it result in something nefarious?
As part of our guide, in case you have any doubts, we are going to tell you what happens whether you decide to drink the potion or if you refuse and how this can affect the course of your game so that you can make the most appropriate choice for you.
How to prepare the Omeluum potion?
First of all, let’s clarify how you can prepare the Omeluum potion in the Myconid colony of the Underdark. You will have to meet this character and, without being hostile towards him, explain to him that you are infected by the parasite. Omeluum will tell you that he can prepare a potion that might cure you, but for this, you will have to collect some ingredients first: tongue of madness and timmask spores. Omeluum himself tells you that the ingredients can be obtained in a tower near the colony, in the southwest. This is the Arcane Tower, which you can place on the map just where we point out below:
We have a related guide in which we explain how to enter this tower and how to activate its elevator. Precisely, in your passage through the tower, it is quite easy to find the ingredients of the potion, these are found in one of the lower floors, between the basement floor and the first floor through which you access the tower. You can reach this floor by jumping down the tower balconies. It doesn’t have much loss. Be sure to pick up the Tongue of Madness and Timmask Spores and then bring them back to Omeluum in the colony.
Alternatively, you could also find these ingredients by exploring the Underdark, but it’s harder to find them this way, so we recommend visiting the aforementioned tower.
What happens if you drink the Omeluum potion?
Once you have the ingredients for Omeluum to brew the potion, you will have the opportunity to drink it or refuse to drink it. In theory, Omeluum says that after drinking the potion he can try to dispel control of the tadpole you’re infected with. Naturally, you may be hesitant to ingest it, as you may find it difficult to trust a mind flayer’s word (even if he has managed to escape the control of his race).
However, the potion could be the cure for your parasite, so… what happens if you drink it? These are the consequences: If you agree to drink the Omeluum potion, your character will writhe and fight the parasite. You can then make several saving throws to combat the tadpole’s strength, but no matter what you do, the tadpole will inevitably always come out on top. After a few moments, Omeluum will acknowledge a miscalculation in the potion and admit that your parasite has now amplified its power. As compensation, Omeluum can give you a special ring to protect you from the tadpole.
At the end of the process, you can either refuse to accept Omeluum’s ring or use a skill roll, such as Intimidation, to demand the ring from Omeluum. In case the character gives it to you, you will get the Mind Shield Ring, a ring with the special bonus “Shelter”, which gives you an advantage on saving throws to avoid being charmed. It can also be sold for a large amount of gold, as it is very valuable.

Omeluum Portion
In any case, drinking the potion has neither positive nor negative effects. Although it is mentioned that the tadpole has increased in power, this does not imply changes to the illicit powers or other effects at the playable level. In narrative terms, it doesn’t seem like there are any major changes from drinking the potion either.
Therefore, agreeing to drink the potion serves more than anything to get the special ring of Omeluum. If you want to get him, agree to drink the potion. If you decide not to drink the potion, nothing will happen. The Omeluum mission will simply remain to be completed.
