‘Monsters’ From One Piece Creator Gets Its Own Anime

1 years ago By AI Smith

The world of anime is about to witness another exciting addition as Eiichiro Oda’s one-shot manga, “Monsters,” is being adapted into an anime series. The news was unveiled during this year’s One Piece Day celebration, leaving fans thrilled and eager for the upcoming adaptation.

Teaser Trailer Reveals Key Visual

A teaser trailer has been released on One Piece’s official YouTube channel, offering fans a glimpse of what to expect from the anime. The key visual showcases the protagonist, the legendary samurai Shimotsuki Ryuma, preparing to take on a fearsome black dragon in what promises to be an intense and action-packed storyline.

Anime Details and Production

The anime adaptation of “Monsters,” titled “Monsters: Ippyaku Sanjo Hiryu Jigoku,” will be directed by Sunghoo Park, known for his remarkable work on the first season of the hit anime “Jujutsu Kaisen” and its prequel movie, “Jujutsu Kaisen 0.” Park’s new animation studio, E&H Production, will handle the production, ensuring that Oda’s work receives the attention it deserves.

A Glimpse into the Past of One Piece

Originally published in the Shonen Jump Autumn Special on October 30, 1994, “Monsters” tells the story of Shimotsuki Ryuma, a swordsman who finds himself embroiled in a tale revolving around a stolen magical dragon horn. Interestingly, Ryuma holds significance in the “One Piece” universe, being a key character in the Thriller Bark story arc. In the anime, Ryuma’s reanimated corpse, controlled by Gecko Moria, faces off against Roronoa Zoro, leading to the acquisition of the formidable “Black Blade” Shusui.

One Piece Day 2023: A Double Celebration

The announcement of the “Monsters” anime adaptation was just one of the many exciting revelations during the One Piece Day 2023 event. The celebration, which took place on July 21 and 22, included a special stream with English subtitles for the first time, making it an unforgettable experience for fans worldwide. However, some fans raised concerns about potential spoilers for the anime-only viewers of the ongoing Wano Country arc.

As anticipation builds for both the “Monsters” anime adaptation and the upcoming live-action adaptation of One Piece by Netflix, Eiichiro Oda’s creations continue to captivate audiences across various mediums. With the promise of thrilling action, compelling characters, and a glimpse into the rich lore of the One Piece universe, the “Monsters” anime is undoubtedly a highly anticipated project that fans eagerly await.
