What Is So Supposedly Wrong With The Modern Warfare 3 Campaign?

1 years ago By AI Smith

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, is a first-person shooter video game, developed by Sledgehammer Games, and published by Activision. It is officially the 20th game in the Call of Duty series, along with being the third one in the revived Modern Warfare subseries. This game will be a direct continuation of the Modern Warfare II game which released in 2022.

Modern Warfare III follows the subseries’ plot of the Modern Warfare. However, at the same time it also interestingly preserves the realistic, modern setting of its predecessors. The main character of the story is Russian terrorist and ultranationalist by the name Vladimir Makarov. The protagonist is basically attempting to ignite a third World War, and is being pursued by Task group called 14.

It is an international special operations group. The game includes a total of 16 original maps, all of which have been altered for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer mode. The developers also promise to add more once the game launches. Modern Warfare III is the first CoD game with an open world and a zombie mode, wherein the player is up against the environment.

Just like Modern Warfare II and other Call of Duty games, Modern Warfare III will have a similar gameplay style. One of the returning features that players will get to see in Modern Warfare III is slide canceling. Activision claims that in addition to linear missions, the game’s campaign will also feature “Open Combat Missions,” thus giving players complete control over how they want to accomplish their goals in the game.

The game has sixteen levels for multiplayer play (which was absent in some prior games), In addition to this just like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009), MW3 will feature matchmade lobby voting for maps at launch. Player can also enjoy their health boosters which will also be available for longer “time-to-kill” (TTK). The “red dot” minimap which was last seen in Modern Warfare (2019) and Modern Warfare II will be reintroduced in the new game. The red dot effectively prevents opponents from showing up on players’ radars when they fire a weapon without a suppressor.

MW3 will also introduce a brand-new game mode called “Cutthroat” in addition to the retention of fan-favorites like “Kill Confirmed” and “Hardpoint.” In the new mode, three teams of three players each will get to battle against one another.

Besides, it also brings in new maps added to the Ground War mode, apart from the War mode that was last seen in Call of Duty: WWII. The game will use artificial intelligence to power moderation, which will monitor in-game interactions and immediately report any activity that is too detrimental.

It has also been revealed by the devs that at least twelve more 6v6 multiplayer maps will be added after the official launch of the game. Not to forget the beloved Modern Warfare II maps will be added every season by default.

Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games have also designed a special open-world multiplayer zombie mode for the new game. The game mode is structured more like Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0’s DMZ mode. It is like the round-based survival experience that players have earlier seen in Zombies editions. Up to 24 players work together as distinct units in the vast battleground Urzikstan. The location is also planned to be a new battle royale venue for Warzone 2.0. Each of these 24 units must face AI-controlled human enemies and zombies if they wish to complete objectives throughout the battlefield. They might also use exfiltration to extract riches or amass it and sell it at buy stations.

It’s just been a few days since Modern Warfare 3 has been officially launched for players, however, thanks to the pre launch hype, it already feels like every possible discussion point has been covered numerous times. Activision is naturally very confident about the game since the beta for the game was successful. Not to forget the confidence is evident in the fact that they let pre-orderers play the game more than a week ahead of schedule giving them early access. It suggests that they are either genuinely unaware of the negative effects of the worst single-player mode in 25 years or they don’t care at all.

It’s hard to imagine the timing being worse given that Call of Duty has celebrated its silver jubilee, despite the game’s consistently outstanding quality over that time.

Everything Wrong With Modern Warfare 3 Campaign

The way that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 handles player disobedience during the campaign is really triggering for the community. The campaign mode of Modern Warfare 3 was only released last week, still, the players have already breezed through the whole single-player ordeal. Apparently, it looks like if you don’t use a covert method and notify a base of your existence during an early-game operation, the game will end up automatically murdering your character out of the blue.

The player must take note of the fact that Modern Warfare 3 essentially deactivates your character as a penalty for breaking mission guidelines. The game fails to give players another way of retaliating if they happen to even slightly go outside of their “Deep Cover” area and warn the opposing base.

A previous mission in Modern Warfare 3 makes the choice to kill the player instantly even more bizarre. The ‘Deep Cover’ suggests that it is almost impossible to destroy a military installation all by yourself. However, ‘Payload’ depicts that you are a lone soldier destroying an entire base. The mission’s name itself signifies that players are not expected to be battling a tiny army by themselves. Instead, they must covert. Even so, it’s a little shocking to be slain and not given any explanation for how or why you met your premature end.

Some fans are defending the game saying the game isn’t bad, and that none of it matters, however, that’s not the case. In addition to being extremely awful, the entire game lasted less than four hours. Thus several players are saying this feels more like a DLC. Some gamers also firmly belive that it was originally developed as DLC

The campaign starts with the restarted protagonist, Vladimir Makarov, getting released from jail. The campaign continues in the same vein as the previous two games, straddling the line between remake and reboot while arbitrarily selecting plot points and set pieces from the 2000s entries. This essentially includes reusing older Modern Warfare 2’s original concepts that weren’t included in the previous year’s game.

Among the things reused are the infamous No Russian level, in which you were made to participate in the slaughter of civilians. Much like everything else, it’s not exactly the same as it was in the previous version of Modern Warfare 3, however, it’s still just as obscene and disgusting.

And similar to everything else, this campaign is incredibly cheesy, and All Ghillied Up has been done so much over the years that there’s no point riffing on it again. However, there is one level that sounds a lot like All Ghillied Up, as if the campaign was originally intended to be a kind of greatest hits retrospective for the 25th anniversary. The mandatory, and very dull, AC-130 gunship mission near the end is exactly the same.

If nothing else works, the No Russian version manages to seed some sort of emotion, even though the emotion is just disgust. Unfortunately, the campaign is very uninteresting. A major blame for this goes to the new open warfare scenarios. These scenarios are expansive, and the open-ended maps let you complete tasks in whatever order you want while trying to find secret caches full of superior weapons and gear.

It is obvious that the revived Modern Warfare series will consist of more than just a trilogy, but Modern Warfare 3 is the kind of low-effort cash grab that the series has consistently avoided up until now. The previous two games in the series were excellent titles that made commendable attempts to try and move the franchise forward.

This Call of Duty is the worst ever in terms of story campaign. It’s possible that the cooperative zombies and multiplayer will make up for it in theory, but they’ll need to be really good. And yet, for some reason, we no longer believe Modern Warfare 3 can live up to that expectation.
