After Overwatch 2 Now NBA 2K24 Is Likely To Be Rated As Worst Steam Game
Following in the footsteps of Overwatch 2, NBA 2K24 has found itself on the brink of being labelled one of the worst-rated games on Steam due to an overwhelmingly negative response from PC gamers.
Released just last week, NBA 2K24 is the latest installment in the enduringly popular basketball series developed by 2K. It made its debut on multiple major platforms, including PC. However, this initial enthusiasm was met with a wave of discontent from PC players, pushing it to the verge of joining the ranks of the most negatively-reviewed games on Steam.
The primary source of this backlash stems from the PC version of NBA 2K24 being based on the previous-generation console versions, specifically the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, rather than the more advanced PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S editions.
As a result, the PC iteration of the game lacks the visual enhancements and gameplay improvements that players were anticipating. Additionally, several features that are present in the newer console releases are conspicuously absent from the PC version.
One of the missing features that has garnered criticism is “ProPLAY,” which is designed to seamlessly integrate real NBA footage into the gameplay, creating a more immersive experience. Another notable omission is the exclusion of “The W,” a personalized career mode. Regrettably, these features are exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game.
Numerous Steam reviews express disappointment with the perceived lack of innovation in NBA 2K24. One frustrated player commented, “I wanted to give 2K another chance after two years, and once again, I was disappointed. The gameplay and animations are the same as in the previous versions. Once again, there’s only the current-gen version available for PC, which I don’t understand. The main menu and the textures of the park still look very cheap as always.”
Another disgruntled user stated, “Extremely disappointed in the amount of effort put into this game. I have both the console X/S edition and the PC edition, and the amount of features they have in the console edition they totally could have made PC next-gen.”
The discontent has extended beyond Steam to platforms like Reddit, where players continue to voice their frustrations, particularly regarding the presence of microtransactions in a game that comes with a full price tag. One Reddit comment pointed out, “Every single microtransaction tactic you can think of is in full use here.”
Despite the growing dissatisfaction among players, 2K has remained silent on the matter, not yet providing an official response regarding the PC version of the game or any plans to address the concerns raised by fans. The negative reception on Steam serves as a stark reminder of the importance of delivering a polished and up-to-date gaming experience to all platforms, ensuring that players across the board can fully enjoy the game’s features and innovations.
